E34 Throwing stars on an E39 M5

Looking for a spare set of wheels for the winter (better late than never). Has anyone used the e34 throwing stars (17inch) from the 540i M Sport or the euro M5 on their E39 M5?

I used to have these on my E34 and loved them... and would prefer not to pony up for a spare set of M5 OEM wheels.

yes, tirerack.com sells the winter tire/wheel combo. I have the Borbet 17" winter set up from them.

This should help:

e34 wheels should not fit the e39 due to a different center bore diameter. Few 17" wheels will clear the M5 brakes. bmw style 66 will, as will a few aftermarket wheels.

If the throwing stars clear the calipers ( a big if), you could have the wheel centers bored out. But I would carefully measure the wheels and brakes before you do that. It is unlikely they will clear the big front brakes of the E39.
You are probably better off getting some used #66 wheels as suggested, or look for some repro's for winter use. Check ebay or check Tire Rack.
Regards,
Jerry

Throwing Stars for M5

The (large) brakes from the 1995 Canadian M540i are contained by the throwing stars...

The specs for these brakes are very large (although perhaps not large enough) -

From the old spec sheet "4 wheel floating independent disc brakes from the 1995 M5. 345x32mm front floating rotors and 328x20mm rear fixed rotors"

Does that give enough to understand if they'd fit?
