Clutch Slave Cylinder Manufacturer?

Hi all,

BMW just rang... My car needs a new clutch slave cylinder and the part is OAR (ex-germany) which is 2 weeks. In Australia we never got the 540i in manual so I am not suprised at the wait, given that it the M5 as its sole application.

I figure if I can find out who makes it and perhaps their part number I can try and see if there is a distributor in the country that might have one, as while BMW may only use it in the M5, other european manufacturers may use it and I could possibly find one there... a long shot I know, but on worth investigating.

Does anyone know who makes it? I have checked the online catalogue for Sachs / Luk / Boge / ATE without luck.

I can see that ATE make the master cylinder and they made the slave cylinders for the E34 M5, but no reference to the E39

FEBI make the Z8 slave cylinder but its dimensions are different to that listed in ETK for the M5. In ETK I have found 055 which is the LHD model and 056 is the RHD model.... looking at a picture of the unit I cant see how they would be different but im not going to tempt fate...

Cheers,
Aaron

This might not help you out but I would just like to let you know, I did a little searching around at work a few days ago tring to find out how many parts and what parts where contracted out by BMW especially the m5. to my suprise not many parts were contracted out espeically anything mechanic or electrical, I only had luck finding contracts for plastic molded peices but nothing that was mechanical.. I might be wrong by thats what i found out

I would have to agree .. I could not find it .. I had to admit defeat and wait the 2 weeks from the dealer... the 540i one was 'close' but not the same. the diameter of the piston was 22mm for 540i vs 23.81 on the M5 and length i think is different.
