For what it's worth, I did get 39,000 miles off those pads (previous owner did baby it), so seems pretty reasonable wear despite a couple weekends at the track and my everyday driving...
zbolts, that is a good question, why does the relationship with the dealer have to be adversial? Have you taken your car to the dealer yet? Have you read any of the million posts by those that have? Do a search on dealers/stealers! Most dealers will do whatever they can to get out of performing warranty work. That isn't opinion, but a fact. Also, I highly doubt that Dr. Dave replacing his 39,000 mile brake pads on the dealer's dollar needs to worry about karma.

I'm not zbolts, but I've been to my dealership several times, and they have been very good about performing the warrantee every time I went.
You say "Most dealers will do whatever they can to get out of performing warranty work. That isn't opinion, but a fact.". A fact? What's your source? Your opinion?
What goes around comes around. Your relationship with the dealer will take a turn for the worse as soon as he suspects your abusing the warrantee on the car. I'm guessing that's why you have this negative opinion on dealers. And when the dealer finds out that this car is being tracked, he will not look so favorably on covering damage and wear.
I guess I don't really understand why driving the car hard on the track once in a while (where it's safe) is somehow bad / unethical / inappropriate, while driving it hard on the streets (as BMW expects, I assume, by making a 400 HP machine like the beast) is perfectly OK. I'd think it the other way around, in a sense. May just be a matter of degrees / slippery slope arguement, but I want to know if I'm doing something wrong and don't see it. I'm very happy with my dealer experience thus far and hope for more of the same. Appreciate all your input, guys!
Dave

By its very nature track driving is much tougher on certain parts of the car. A good example are the brakes on the E39 M5 which handle track driving quite badly - typically fading and glazing after a few hard laps - while they are more than sufficient for regular street driving even on the autobahn.
Driving on track as such is to be encouraged - as you say it's one of the few places you can enjoy the car to its full potential. Just make sure you're not abusing the equipment - street pads aren't suited for this and you will destroy your next set of pads just as quickly - even being treated sensibily with lots of cooling between runs they won't last more than a day or 2 on track. You'll find the dealer will be a lot less understanding if you show up in a few thousand miles with ruined brakes again.
I'm sorry, but that is not proof enough that "Most dealers will do whatever they can to get out of performing warranty work". Read the thread again and notice that others are telling you they had no warranty problem. Again, this is only your opinion, not fact. I don't seem to have these problems with the dealer, or Dinan.

Your one of the lucky few "You don't SEEM to have any problems with the dealer", well that is your opinion! I'm entitled to my opinion as you are yours. I'm still waiting for you to provide me with facts???

That's the point; there are no facts just opinions. Earlier you stated yours as fact. I didn't. Now you’re calling it your opinion, thank you as that's what it is. Be prepared to have your facts ready to prove when you make a statement and refer to it as FACT.
My experience with dealers has been different. Lets see how long it continues this way.
