ase2dais was gracious enough to provide a carfax for a car that I am interested in. The very first line states "US Customs vehicle exported form Israel and imported to Newark, NJ."
Is this common? What exactly does that mean? Why wasn't it exported from Germany? Should there be any concerns? The rest of the car checked out fine. Thanks
When I was on the hunt for my M5, I ran carfax's on about 8 different cars I had been looking at over a few months time. I noticed that all the cars were "exported" from different countries to Newark, NJ. My car was exported from Finland. The other cars were exported from Hondouras, Sweden, Argentina, France, etc. etc. etc.
What all this means I really don't know, but I just thought I would share my findings. Bottom line is, i don't think that your car being exported from Isreal is a problem

OF course they are exported as new from Germany Maybe that is not what some meant here? But buying a European / Middel East spec M5 in USA is not something I would do.
I don't place to much trust into Carfax, but I used them as a basic starting point. Not all states report incidents/loses to Carfax, which makes Carfax not 100% reliable.

Customs documents do funny things- maybe the manifest had a stop in Israel ? Quite possible it was a paperwork issue and not, in fact, goods actually arriving is israel...maybe an israeli flagged ship? I've seen other cars with non-germany origins... BUT I would not dismiss it based on our input. BMW will have the specs on that car- make sure it is a US spec production.
the most reliable thing would be to take the vin to a dealer and have them look up the car's service history. It will show what dealer delivered the car and when, assuming it was a US car and the carfax is showing some paperwork fluke. I've seen people post this before about these cars and carfax, like ard says, usually just a paperwork thing. If it really is an import, the service history will show it.

Just to hopefully clear everything up, the car was first brought into the US via Israel. The car has been owned in both Florida and Virginia. It's passed California emissions. Do I still need to be worried about this car?
