Guibo fixed, new odyssey battery installed.

Well, last week when I had the car on a lift changing all the fluids, I noticed guibo was not doing well. Then later that week I hammered her pretty hard and then started getting driveline vibration--guibo was done. So I went to the local stealer and ordered a new one ($116 with my BMW CCA discount). Went to the auto hobby shop, put her on the lift, proceeded to remove guibo and I find out the damn thing wont come out unless you drop the center bearing thing--which requires removal of the exhaust (at least in my case, full supersprint system--headers cats xpipe mufflers). well I only had an hour till the shop closed so I put it all back together and went back today. I was thinking getting the exhaust off was going to be a royal pain, but supprisingly it came off with very little effort, although having a lift is key, I would hate to do it without one. after the exhaust was off all that is left to do is remove some heat shielding, pull two nuts (13mm) to drop the center bearing, put one of those tall stands under the part of the driveshaft attached to the diff, take out the six bolts(21mm) holding guibo on, then install in reverse order. Will post pics soon.

After that put in the new Odyssey drycell, I think its model 925MJT. It fit in the well perfectly, although only takes up about 1/2 of the space of the original and weighs about 25 pounds less. So far so good. Will keep everyone updated on how it performs in the long haul.

Tomorrow I install the H&R Coilover suspension and Daylight Demon Eyes. Will post on how that goes as well.

Besides vibration, did you hear any sort of squealing noise coming while driving, sort of like a wheel spinning? I have this issue and there was a post a while back saying that it might be the guibo. Also, is the guibo easily visible if the car is up on a lift? i.e. would it be obvious if it's cracked or something like that?

Thanks,
Hugh

I'm a big fan of those Odyssey batteries. Did you have to do anything to make it fit/secure it? Any pics?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely with a pretty, well preserved body. The goal is to skid in broadside, tires smoking, body all dented, leaking fluids, gas gauge on empty, throughly used up and worn out, proclaiming, "Holy sh!t, what a ride!"

This is an excellent opportunity, in my mind, to start figurig out an efficent emergency selection of tools, bulbs, tow ropes, tarps, jacks, etc..to keep in the car. That's what I did. I jettisoned the 'joke inflation kit', and started squeezing useful stuff into the nooks and crannies.

The Odyssey batteries are great.Mine weighs in at 15 lbs insted of 60 lbs.One problem I have encountered though is when I left my car sit for 2 weeks-the battery would not start my car.

No squealing noise, but what I did hear/feel was thru the shifter, it was vibrating and making a grrr noise (technical, I know ) that varied with road speed. It is very easy to see with the car on a lift, it is located between the output of the transmission and front of the driveshaft. I will post detailed pics today.

Does the 925MJT secrure down with the factory moutnings or did a bracket have to be fabricated?
