I picked up the Ute last Saturday and drove it back to Melbourne (via my home town) and got near 5 hours in it.
It drove great.
No drone at all in any RPM, and at 100kays in 6th you just hear a distant rumble.
Deleting the resonators has made this the loudest car/ute around.
Sounds crazy if no body is around, but in around other cars it's not good for them one bit.
I've got to short change at 3k so the noise is kept to a min.
At 2k in 3rd to 5th you give it a squirt the big chested growl comes alive, it's totally addictive in that range.
I did another 6 hours driving the next day.
They have this thing called the Mt Buller hill climb that's about 2.5 hours NE of Melb.
Its an event that lets you run street legal cars (roll cages, harnesses) up a 10mile (16 kay) hill climb to the top of the mountain (ski resort).
They do this about 10 times over 3 days for the guys with the lowest total time wins.
The top cars (Evo's, Lambo's can break 9 min) You can Youtube cars heading up the mountain.
I was very lucky, but they let me follow the last car up the mountain twice for the afternoon.
Talk about a big smile on the Apple mans face.
The sound of this thing was so bloody loud, I was told it was the loudest car there, but it's not legal.
The resonators will have to go back on to soften the edgy sound the exhaust has now.... needs more burble/roar
I went to get a guy near the start line to get a video clip of me heading up the hill for about 10 seconds of video (30 sec of audio) but the camera didn't turn on (dead battery I thought) I later found out the battery (fully charged) but wasn't in the camera....Appleby idiot came to mind.
This was the best chance I could have got to get the M5's sound bouncing off the steep walls of the mountain and You tubed it!.
Road was still closed, so nothing coming the other way (awesome to know that)
It was the the best bit of road to test the ute's suspension on.
It's was at the most top end of 3rd gear down to 1st gear hair pins, so top speed was about 140kays (85mph).
The suspension out of the blocks was very streetable and eats up bumps like any beemer.
It will need to be a bit stiffer with a bit more spring needed and the dampers are still at the setting they came out of the box with.
There's a list of well over a dozen things that will need some adjusting to get the ute totally finished from electrical things like weak NAV and radio signal, plus much more.
Unfortunatly the pass door doesn't open, so no body has had a ride yet.
Need a 4 pint wheel alignment and a 4 corner weigh later this week.
That will be interesting to see how it moved.

Well done mate. I sat in Yoda when Mark owned it and I thought of buying off him as had all that I wanted in an M5.

This has been a great project.

I loaded two sound clips of the M5 Ute's new sound.
One with a bit more stick and one just passing by at low RPM's
I can only see this one popped up on my account, but the other one shouldn't be far behind.

Apples,

Nice video. You must be in the country on that first one because I heard the birds in the background. So how do you open your door? Is there a remote switch because I can't see a mechanical door handle.
