It's been a month since I've got back to the board....sorry a bit slack.
Since I left Shane has been deep in to getting all the gaps tight all over the ute ready for paint.
Prepping for paint has seen well over 100hrs so far, much more to be done.
The current paint color is the under coat black.
It gets laid pretty thick and much more sanding needs to be done after more coats before the real black go's on.
He'll spray a very light amount of white looking paint over the black so when he does the sanding he'll be able to spot any low spots that maybe still there.
He's already done this in the initial prep stages, so doing it again will give a better quality finish.
Going for the mirror looking PPG black is more important then many other colors as it will show any imperfections V's say white.
This stage is critical as it's the only way you'll find waves in body before it's too late.
As you can see, the "bump" strips that are all round the normal E39 have been filled with a special filler.
It has modernized the ends of the ute no end
The sides to look better for the deletion.
The rotisserie is now holding the ute up so the sanding the tub becomes much eaiser.
The enging bay and underside have been cleaned and ready for paint, so the rotisserie will make this easier.
The engine bay will just have a matte black finish, not polished.
Even held up by the rotisserie the doors close perfectly (see attached pic gap in door)
I'm going to do the normal clear coat polished finish on the ute now.
We just didn't know how a matte clear coat was going to take the test of time....what do you do with scratches, I laid up on that one and went safe .
Cobra seats from Sube sports will be fitted sometime in months starting with "J"
Contacted a company in Toowoomba QLD on getting the rear lid done in CF.
Vorsteiner have been too slow and don't seem to offer much customer service to Aaron from Stealth, he's has left plenty of messages and nothing from them.
I think the candy black clear coat like Laidback has is brilliant.
It hides the blue/gray that natural carbon comes as, but in direct light it will show through.
Maybe some sort of accent or lettering might go on the hood under the candy black clear coat.

The only issue is that their autoclave will be about 50mm too narrow to make the rear lid in one part.
They are 1,500mm wide and the lids about 1,550mm at the widest point.
Some hurdles need to be jumped there, but we've come up with some options to get around it.
We'll be using some small LED's to light up the rear number plate.
I'm very happy with it's location, as we didn't have many options.
