You really should read the "Ute conversion" thread. Everyone in the world can modify a 32' Chevy/etc. Why can't someone modify an M5?

^^Thanks Sammy. I kind of get the sense that people are applauding this guys valiant efforts (to say the least) for the reason being that he is some sort of celebrity.

I've read posts where people go crazy when cars look ricer. While I’m not a fan of the ricer look, at least ricer cars retain their form.

Heck, there are even long debates over simple things such as de-badging the m5 lol. This, however, isn't modifying, it’s butchering.

This M5 is not ricer, this M5 is a pickup. That is special, ricing is not rare, that is just bad taste. People here mostly think a rebuilt M5 Tourign is nice, then also a M5 Pickup that is built seriously.

And regardign celebrety; yes it is alot more fun that Apples does this than just buying a "standard" PGA car such as a 911 Turbo or similar.

Go Apples

You like the idea, or you don't. But NOBODY can argue the quality of this job. Maybe you don't like what they're doing, you have to admit you have respect for how they're doing it.
I think the idea is cool actually... It would be a shame to do something like this to an E30 M3 Cecotto, but on a 'common model' like the E39 M5, why not?

gustav

Gustav, i see where your coming from, where people love to have a sense of originality and to be separate from other m5's BUT I'd love to see how many people on the m5 board would ever buy this frankinstein (as another member posted) project thingy which was once a beautiful beast , thats if apples would ever sell it or tries to sell it lol, gustav its jus my opinion no disrespect directed to you or anyone on the board.

So turning an m5 into a pickup cannot be qualified as 'bad taste?' Now, I do agree, to each his own, but WOW! I would have never imagined that someone would venture into such a project.

I'm sure the craftsmanship came out outstanding but the end result, at least in my honest opinion, does not live up to the hype or is worthy of the praise.

Now, if this is the new trend, and cars such as 911 Turbo's are simply "standard," then Gustav call me old fashioned but I'd rather live in the past. Or maybe some of us should just jump off Apple's M5 bandwagon.

In short, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter what any of us think as long as Apples enjoys his car. On the other side of the token, this is a public forum and we are all entitled to our opinion.

There is no endresult yet - the project won't be finished for another few months. The 'finished' picture in the article you linked is just a quick and nasty Photoshop.

Well, that explains my initial question.
