Rear Emblem placement

I need to replace the rear M5 emblem on my new beast. I have the replacements, but does anyone have the measurements for the placement on the truck lid? I know I could eyeball it, but I'd like to put them as close to "factory" as possible. I know some of you out there would likewise settle for nothing less than perfect. ;)

Please see the attached image (borrowed from member tq2k - thanks) for the measurements I'm looking for. Or if anyone has created a template to do this, it would be most helpful.

thanks!

I just measured mine. It measured exaclty 1" down to the horizontal line on the trunk. It was 1 1/8" from the corner of the 5 to the edge of the tailight lense. That was going in a parallel line across the bottom of the emblem (if that makes sense). I measured where your yellow lines are. A suggestion, I just replaced the Turbo emblem on the back of my 911. Once I had the measurements, I used a level and blue painters tape to basically create a horizontal a vertical guide to assist with the placement of the emblem. You may want to wait for someone else to give the measurements. I'm the second owner of my car and although I don't know why it would have been, I can't confirm my badge hasn't been replaced. Good Luck

So, make sure the car is level, too or else you will level the emblem with the ground but not the car!

You could always put a 520d emblem on there instead! :hihi:

That's fantastic..thank you very much....But which one do I use for the M5?

Ummm .... yea.... that is a good point that ;). I am not entirely sure. I'll print it out and go check on my car.

I measured my RHD car and I got

A = 20, B = 37.

I'll keep digging and see if I can find any M specific emblem mounting information

I know this is an old post, but hey...i'm using the searching function, right??

Anyway...

Can someone verify that the distance from the trunk line to the bottom of the M badge line is 20mm...and distance from "5" edge to the taillight is 37mm ??

Could anyone tell me what the distance is in mm between the "///M" and the "5" ?

It looks to be about 6mm, but it would be nice to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

If still have the old badges on the car, it is too easy. Just use masking tape (I use the blue stuff) and Place a piece below and to the sides to mark the current position. Once the tape is place you can use a hair dryer and dental floss to remove the old badges leaving the tape in place. Using the tape as guide you can now put the the new shiney badges on.

FWIW,

Doh! My car came to me un-badged as well. I re-badged it with the help of board members on placement. I highly recommend mocking up the position using some masking tape on the back of badges. The actual tape on the badges is VERY sticky and if you mis-place one you are hosed. I used masking tape on the back and then once I was happy with the position, I used the suggestion I posted above to mark the positions for final placement.

Cheers!
