Is this the most amazing 4 door ever built or what?

I know this post may be viewed as lame, but after having the beast for a month now, I'm more and more in love with it every day. I find it actually continues to grow on you day by day as you push it a little more and discover how truly amazing it is. The luxury is all that and the power is addicitive....the trick is trying to keep yourself from throttling the hell out of it all the time. Every now and then I look down and see I'm doing 100 when it feels like 50. I feel like king of the road in this machine........hell, you are king of the road in this machine. It has to be one of the greatest feats of modern engineering. I don't doubt that the E60 is amazing, but the style of the E39 is worth at least the 100hp differential in my book.

Well said - I have just about 102,000 miles on the clock and the car still thrills me every time I drive it.

I put my car next to the new e60 recently at the dealer and I swear, I'd still take mine all things considered.

The 100 extra HP means zero to me - 4.6 to 4.7, 0-60 - that's the bottom line for me.

Plus if you actually drive and mess with the e60, it's not really a car - it's a freakin' computer on tires.

Our cars have just enough technology but still maintains the drivability and excellence that BMW cars are known for.

Yeah, they can be tempermental but, after trading cars 8 out of the last 10 years before the M5, I told everyone who would listen that THIS is the car I'd been waiting for and it would be my last.

More than 6 years later, and one helluva lot of fun (and $ on repairs I might add) I still LOVE turning that key!

Hope you can enjoy yours just as long.

You have caught the E39 M5 bug for sure. I agree regarding the styling. By the way, I named her "Rachel" and I have a wife, 3 kids and a dog too, but Rachel ate the cat...

6 years later and I can't ever think about trading her in because I think anything else would be a step down. It's just too much fun...

Ditto, but even with the step backwards with the E60 style, I've been for a ride in the new M5 and it's a freaking monster. You can't understand how great the car is until you're been for a ride. The steering and power are better than the E39. It's like the fat chick - A lot of fun in the dark, but not much to look at in the light of day...

I think it is the best all around car of the 20th century. Always remember that you are driving a piece of the automotive history.
