Quick sanity check -> $322 USD for complete Euro armrest kit

Does this price seem right? This includes the sliding/tilting base, storage compartment and padded armrest. This is the package deal with black leather.

TIA

Gary

I found the part number for the kit here:

http://www.bmwtips.com/

You have to scroll down to the "Interior" section and then click on topic #6 titled "Euro-StorageBin-Armrest Install".

I'm tired of the pre Cambrian phone cradle and umbilical cord so I think I'm going to do the conversion.

if you get the vinyl version it drops down to like $170ish. It does look a bit out of place thou, i'll try to take a pic tomorrow.

I recall a board member creating one with very little out of pocket expense.

At least two of us have done this, but it isn't easy. I uninstalled the Euro kit and moved back to the U.S. armrest due to the installation of the Bluetooth Eject box which is not compatible with the Euro armrest kit. If you so a search it's all there with pics and all.

I was shocked when I tried to open my arm rest and found out there is no function for it at all.

Oh well, I least there improving from year to year. The e34 doesn't even have an armrest and I bet the E60 has a functional armrest.

Doesn't the E34 have armrests attached to the seats?

In any regards having the storage bin and a top portion that doesn't suck your elbow into it's vast expanse like a black hole is nice but for $322 there are a lot of things I would PERSONALLY rather have.

Partial fund for a CAI, HID foglight kit, IATS, ICELink to name a few.

and in 5 years we'll have cup holders that actually hold something for the duration of any reasonable drive....

PS Price sounds about right... I remembered it at like $280-300...

Recently had it done by a friend, who works part time for some high end tuners. He dremelled the phone tray also from underneath and got a very nice fit.

As noted, the phone box for my bluetooth install won't fit, so we are working on taking that box apart, putting the guts in a small unit and locating it out of sight, close to the armrest. I don't care about in car charging. Since this is a weekend project, no ETA on completion.
Regards,
Jerry

My apologies upfront if I'm going to sound like a cheapskate, but if the price is a concern why do't you try the auto scrapyards for a totaled E39. In SA you can get used auto parts for considerably cheaper than the new ones, most of the time in reasonable condition. Might take up a bit of your time though to find a wreck with trim similar to yours.

Shoot me down in flames if I'm silly...

When you get right down to it I guess I'm paying $322 for a hole!

If a Motorola-to-Nokia cord adapter existed, that might be an alternative solution. However, I'm guessing the electrics of the 1985 Motorola brickPhone the cradle was designed for don't allow for this.
