DSP sucks

I have it too. For stock it is pretty damn good I suppose, but having heard some sweet setups before, I know that it could sound soooo much better.

BTW, theres a difference between a prefab glass and a custom fit glass enclosure. When you do it all custom, no hacking is necessary as you will lay the glass to conform to the surface.

just got a note from m5boy (has dsp, just swapped out for bsw rainbows) and he swears by them. hope to have a listen in a day or 2.

btw, going to and heading back from b'fest, i almost stopped listening to the cd (except when i was stuck) because i had way too much fun playing with the paddleshifters, downshifting for fun, and to accelerate, and to listen to even just the stock exhaust at 4k to 6k rpms sounded better than the music. i'm sure the dinan will be even worse. hahahahaha.

now if someone can just come up with some real quad solution...anyone?

I should say that it is a huge improvement over the m-audio and the regular dsp which i had in the 540. There is no doubt that an expensive system couldn't out perform the BSW upgrade but as BSW says this is just a Stage 1 upgrade...affordable, looks absolutely stock, and sounds alot better than stock. Im pretty big into audio and have a nice setup for my cans i use at home, but the BSW has made me happy with the cars audio ability and more importantly has met my requirements for what i expect from the cars audio system. Some people want more of course. But with that said IMO nothing can substitute a perfectly setup headphone system.

this shld be another big project...

technically, not a retrofit, as this "option" was never available on the touring. here are the macro pics of different parts of the "elephant." this shld be just as crazy for tyrone as the dsp will be...he spent quite some time exploring this mod. almost 2 months bouncing ideas around.

a little clue - notice the e52 part designation? yes. it comes from a .....very special bmw, one of my all time favorites.

this is one part...

this is another part.

the BEST clue is that my littlest daughter will be very happy. she has been introduced to tyrone last time he was at my house.

33 days to go

the touring never had the rear heated seat option. those heating elements are from a z8! so aside from the retrofitting the "normal" heated seats on the left and right ends of the rear "bench," i had tyrone also figure out a way to heat the middle part, both seating area and the back part which is on the retractable arm rest. THAT's where my little one sits.

if all goes as planned, tyrone should have all the retrofit mods done by the 22nd of this month...

no!!!! we talked about it, and then totally forgot about it. did u already have the heaters, and added the massagers??

who did it for you?

for tomorrow, NO update.

to celebrate the 32 days left, i better get on sending in my dinan receipts tomorrow!!! might even just overnight it to them...as of tonight, finally taking a quick tally of the damage, it came to about $31,500, taxes and labor. that's b4 the rebate, but already includes the additional 10% the guys at bms were kind enough to give me.

and THAT's just the dinan part of my project!!! . i think i need a few gulps of chamomile tea!

ps. forgot this pic of a 98 or 99 528it, supercharged by a relatively new company called axiom. their stage 2 on this pumped it up from about 195 hp to 280 hp. cost was about 4800, even cheaper than vf. the dark bluish paint job still looks unbelievably nice. very clean. the owner told me it's his WIFE's sled. had every bit of acs stuff on it. i like those 2 pc rims too - dont think they make them anymore.

well, not really. working late again tonight.

We couldn't find one with a cold weather package as well as the other options I wanted, so we had Chris at BMS put in heater/massager units from a company I found at SEMA. I forget their name at the moment. The heaters are almost as good as BMWs, but the massagers are GREAT! I've toyed with the idea of having him add the massagers to my M5, but have been to busy to get around to it.

oh no. i really would like that. i'll be calling them. i'm probably more excited about some real massager than than a full blown custom sound system.

some dinan updates...about the rebates

oh, well, thought there wasnt going to be an update from me, but this is important. if it freaked me out a little bit, i figure some of u might want to know. this has arisen over another post from cosioboy about the experiences of board members with the dinan 20% rebates.

so, being the nut that i am, i just called bill asquith, and i have told him he will be quoted on this board.

some of these are particular to me, but some will be of general interest to those of us who forked over

1. regarding the rebate form: since the new form references the NEW program, ie, 10% from apr to jun, bill said to simply encirle the date of purchase on your invoice, which will tell them what rebate program we're under. IT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL AND INSTRUCTIVE TO INCLUDE A WELL-WRITTEN AND CLEAR COVER LETTER TO AVOID ANY CONFUSION. make copies of what you send.

it'll be nuts for me, as i have to do 3 of them: s/c, diff, exhaust on 1 invoice, stage 3 susp on 2nd invoice, throttle body and strut brace on 3rd!!!

2. regarding the "must be installed" clause: while this is in the new rebate form, it was NOT in the original 20% rebate form. btw, i found a link to on another thread here...Dinan software question

reason: apparently, some have already received their rebates and have CANCELLED their orders. i can understand their position on that. while i want my rebate now, i guess all i want to make sure is i will get it in a reasonable amount of time.

3. proof required for #2: either need a photo or invoice of installation. BILL SAID IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER WHO INSTALLS IT, WHETHER AN AUTH DEALER, YOURSELF, OR AN INDY THAT IS NOT A DINAN DEALER. it just has to be installed.

4. regarding ORIGINAL receipts: in my case, bms has only emailed me mine. per bill, i can just print it out, as i said - i'll print out a nice colored copy of the pdf file that was sent to me. of course, originals are preferable, but apparently NOT mandatory. check with whoever u bought from - because i know and have confirmed that worst case, dinan has my order on their system on the correct dates.

5. regarding purchases made AFTER 3/31 (20% deadline): i bot my stage 3 susp at savage during their dinan roadshow on april 1. bill personally approved (as he did for everyone there) that purchases that day will be squeezed into the 20% rebate category. he said it will be plain to them when they see the savage receipt, BUT AGAIN, ATTACH A COVER LETTER STATING THAT FACT!

6. deadlline for rebate submission of 4/15, esp for the 20% rebate: due to the overwhelming response, and subsequent backorders, bill said they are NOT holding anyone to the 4/15 deadline. instead, he suggested to just turn in everything: invoice, cover letter (if u want), proof of installation, AFTER everything is done, sent in together. ...submit at the same time.

7. bill was kind enough to provide some kind of eta for my different parts. for that, i needed to have the diff po's. i believe most shldnt take forever...

-exhaust, anytime now, to be shipped out.
-s/c and diff: estimated ship date is 5/12. that puts my countdown at 32 days. oh well.

any questions? back tonight. laaaaaaaaatttttttttteeeeeeeee tonight.
