Fuel consumption observation

Well, I've had my Beast for a few weeks now and have already put more than 1K more miles on her (42K now). My average mpg. is 19.0 (combination stop and go and freeway, plus the occasional let her rip to red line in a few gears)
My latest full tank has gone 325 miles and has about 25 mi. left. Not too bad in my opinion, but was interested in hearing if this is similar mileage to what other folks experience.

Hi ...

My car was new when I got it (special order) and I now have 38,000 miles on it.

Started out driving it everywhere, but after a few months, decided I wanted to keep it longer than I had planned, so ... now I only drive on longer trips (17 states, so far). Drive fast, and absolutely love the car.

Use the A/C almost all the time and my mileage since new is 18.9 MPG.

I think you're doing quite well, and within the range I would expect.

John.

I've had mine for 5 weeks and I've averaged 12mpg with mostly in town driving. I have a 3 mile commute to work but try to get out on the highway for a run or two each week.

You guys are doing a lot better than I am. 03 with 40K and I drive it hard.....only get about 200miles per tank mostly in town driving. Last week I had a 60 mile round trip for 3 days and got 300 miles to the tank. So the numbers sound about right.

I work at home, so most of my M5's drives are short (2m or less). In such a scenario it rarely gets around 11mpg because the engine runs rich when cold. In dense city driving I used to get an easy 13-14mpg, with 17 possible when there weren't too many cars between lights. I also used to get around 22mpg freeway (80+mph), with 24-25 possible with a light foot and slower speed. After converting to the Dinan S2, mileage has dropped some. I can still get around 13mph in the city, but I have to try a little harder. Rural roads I can still get 17-20mpg but the shorter rearend dropped my highway mileage to about 21. I've seen 23 when driving 65mph, but I think 21mpg is the limit for normal highway driving. On the positive side, that car is as much faster than stock as an M5 is to a 540

One more note: I noticed MUCH more significant fuel comsumption at WOT after Dinan S2 than before. This makes sense given the larger MAFs, throttle bodies and exhaust - the engine breathes much deeper, but every time I sprint from 0 to whatever-is-too-fast it knocks a few tenths off my mpg that don't come back until the next tank. Still worth the smiles though

WOW - I get 12mpg with mostly city driving. I do have $10K+ of Dinan stuff, so I don't how bad that kills the mpg.

mixed hwy/city

I've had mine for about a month now, and am getting 14-15mpg. Up from 8 in my first week of ownership. I recently filled up an almost completely empty tank (range=4 miles) for just shy of $50 - Yikes!
