New numbers are in, 2,591 US 2000 M5 sales!

270 M5's were sold last month bringing the year to date total to 1,891. Including the 700 sold last year brings the 2000 MY total to a whopping 2,591 units. That explains why we're seeing these cars everywhere.

To put that number in perspective MB's 4 year run of E55's is 2,000 cars. Jaguar sold 748 XJR's ytd down from 934 last year.

I predict the pace will slow down in '01 & definitely in '02, as more details of the next 5 series redesign begin to emerge. We may be seeing a repeat of '91 - '93. Lots of cars sold during the first year, and a trickle in years 2 & 3.

Enjoy the ride!

BMW Year-To-Date Sales Exceed 100,000; Increases in Monthly and Year-To-Date Sales Reported
August 1, 2000 12:50 PM EDT

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- BMW of North America, Inc. has surpassed the 100,000 mark in year-to-date sales, reporting year-to-date vehicle sales of 103,951, a 14 percent increase compared to 91,401 sales in 1999. That figure exceeds BMW's 1995 annual sales of 93,309. BMW also reported sales of 15,168 vehicles, also an increase of 14 percent over the 13,298 reported for the same period a year ago.

Year-to-date automobile sales increased 3 percent, to 93,909 compared to 91,401 in 1999. Monthly sales were relatively even -- 13,290 in July 2000 compared to 13,298 a year ago. A 27 percent increase in 3 Series sales contributed to BMW's strong automobile sales this month with June 2000 sales of 8,052 compared to 6,358 a year ago.

The company also reported monthly Sports Activity Vehicle sales of 1,878 and year-to-date SAV sales of 10,042.

Certified Pre-owned (CPO) sales were strong, too. BMW reported July sales of 4,205, up 40 percent compared to July 1999. Year-to-date, sales of CPO BMWs jumped 88 percent to 27,213.
