E39 M5 vs 2003 Z06???

Guys my friend just got a Z06... I pisses me off to know that his car is faster.

Is there any way that my M5 could keep up to him (kinda) on the highway (60 and up) if I have an exhaust, x-pipe, chip, AA Ram air??? I still prefer my car but I don`t want to look slow if I race him!

Chuck:

I hhave read a lot of reviews of the Z06 and there is no way an M5 can keep up with it w/o a supercharger or more mods. Here are some numbers of the stock Z06:

0-60: 3.9
0-100: 8.8
1/4 mile: 12.2 @ 120.7 mph
2nd gear top speed: 91
Top speed: 198
(from R&T 11/05)

The Z06 has 25% more horsepower and is significantly lighter with a curb weight of 3150 lbs.

Sorry to disappoint.

Michael

I believe that car has 405 hp and 400 lbs of torque.......and its still light. Here are some numbers for the 03 Z06:

0-60 mph
0-100 mph
1/4 Mile
Top Speed
3.9 s
9.1 s
12.5 s @ 120 mph
171 mph

The M5 can't keep up with that.

...12.5 @ 120mph sounds optimistic for the C5 Z06. Knock 5mph off that trap speed. Anyways, you'd still need some serious modifications for the E39 to be able to keep up, unless the guyin the Z06 is hauling around a 400lb chick.

I was thinking 0-60 also seemed fast, but I don't have any specs in front of me. New Z06 has 100 more hp and is only a couple of tenths faster? And not like going from V8 to V10, where some low end torque was lost. I would have thought low 4's (still admittedly faster than E39 M5).

A set of headers/X pipe and race cats will help noticeably, along with upgrading the ECU to handle the changes.
Regards,
Jerry
