Valet parking revisited

Last year I started a thread about valet parking, because it was the first time I was taking the M5 to Las Vegas, some of you said it was "ok", some said "no way" I took the advice of the park your self crowd ever since. On my last trip to Vegas, we stayed at the MGM, my car was parked at the main structure seperated by a fence from the valet parking area. I observed the valet attendants driving the cars for about 15 mins. Every car that went by was going at least 35-40 mph up the ramps, wheels squealing around the 180 degree turns, brakes locking up before stopping, gears slammed into reverse before the car came to a stop to back in the spots. It didn't matter what type of car, suv, or truck they were driving. So beware if you use valet parking.

Basically....think of yourself at their age. Some guy pulls up in one of your dream cars, tosses you the keys, and tips you to park it. Id have a hard time not seeing what the car could do or taking it for a joyride.

Agreed...BUT... I would like to think there is something called "professionalism" and/or "respect" which would temper their "enthusiasm" which can be learned at any age! Good advice though...

Vanc'M

I watched one night in 1999 as the valet at La Terrazza smoked up the rear tires on an M5 and kept them spinning while he waited for the security gate to open for the valet lot. He was quite talented and he probably got most of 30 seconds on them before he lifted off and drove through the now-open gate.

I was living in the 1009 Expo tower at the time, and I was coming in the back way walking home from another Yaletown restaurant.

I used to use valet parking all the time, but I've never given a valet the keys to my M5 - regardless of where I was! Even up at Seasons at Queen Elizabeth Park, I park myself, keep the keys and pay the valet - he even gets a tip!

Cheers
JJ
