intro

After seeing one of the first M5s in the US at M day in 1998, I finally picked one up today. 2002 Charietto Red with Caramel leather....23k miles.

One question...where were the Nav Cds upon delivery? The previous owner NEVER installed them and says he can't find them. I told him to look and when he finds them i will trade him the 6 CDs he left in the changer. How much does a new set cost?

Edit to add: This is my 6th M car, first M5. I am building a CM E30 M3 for club racing. I am also a T&S steward for club racing.

Welcome aboard!

As far as your CD NAV question, you can pick up a set of used ones through Ebay, or purchase them through NavTeq. If you need coverage for the entire US, I think they are a toal of six, but not fully sure.

Or alternatively, you can upgrade to the MKIV DVD-based Nav, which will give you coverage of all of US + Canada all on one single DVD. You get much better graphics and speed too. I did the upgrade which is quite worthwhile IMO.

Re: intro

Congratulations on your purchase.

You can look at the for sale section on this board, ebay, or go to www.navteq.com (1-866-462-8837) and purchase a region CD, $129 (There are 8 different regions) or buy the entire 8 CD set for the US (Hawaii and Canada are included) for $199. 2005.2 is the latest version.

If you open the trunk and look to the driver's side, you will see the NAV unit. If you pull the interior cover away from the unit, the 6 disc changed is located behind it. The navigation CD's do not go in the vertically mounted multi-disc changer. If he did this, take them out of the vertical unit and put in the appropriate region CD in the NAV unit which is mounted horizontally. Hope this helps.

Re: intro

gobuffs,

Welcome aboard. The previous owner on mine had just the one CD and it was a 2002 version. I paid a couple hundred dollars for a 2005 version from navteq with the entire set. In retrospect I probably could have just gotten the California/Nevada version as I don't expect to drive across the state line often.

Yep...class of 1993.

How much is the upgrade to a MKIV? Does it come with the DVD? How much would my MKIII be worth? When do you buy them from? BMW part number for the MKIV?

Thanks,
Bruce
