Re: Anyone ever buy the projector fogs off ebay?

no..but thinking about it.

Simply becasue I can find the hella clear headlamps off ebay for far less than any on-line shops have them for.

Comparatively speaking, the fogs should be cheaper too. but which fogs? More hella? maybe, as my fog lamp glass covers are shot.

Mostly, I would like some real headlamp power down there. Makes a terrific snow (or fog) headlight!

Re: Anyone ever buy the projector fogs off ebay?

we will order 3 sets hopefully soon for 3 M5's ...

if you are planning to upgrade your fog light to HID xenon , the best way is to have a projector ( lnes like the low beam light in the headlight ) other wise if you install the HID on the OEM fog light , it will be too bright and will be like a high beam to the people who comes from the other side of the raod .. ( which is really bad ) ...

So hopefully I will post some picture after I get them installed ..

I see that its an exposed lens, but is the lens glass or some cheap plastic? Has anyone actually had their hands on one of these $ 78.00 kits?

hmm...my guess would be that they won't be very bright at all, unless you're planning on putting actual HID bulbs behind them. Although, the listing says that they come with halogen bulbs, so maybe they are okay...

I think they're all 55 watt bulbs, but of course all bulbs are not created equal as I've had some cheap ones that the lifespan was measured in minutes.

Even if the bulbs are crap, at $ 78.00 plus shipping, I can afford to put in some quality ones. Maybe even yellow ones. (I know some consider that sacrilege on a BMW.)

Yeah, but generally projector lenses are generally for use with HID bulbs, which generally run in the $400-$500 range for the bulbs, ballasts and relays. So, unless you're willing to pony up for an HID kit, I'm not certain how effective these lenses are going to be.

I guess my point is that if you're just going for appearance, that's one thing, but if you want the fogs to be effective they might not be.

Wasn't BMW using projector fogs in the bumper of the last gen 3-series? I wouldn't think all those were HID. Actually I think Mercedes has used projector fogs on a few cars too, (last gen E-class w/sport package and E55 comes to mind) and I know those weren't HID.
