Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

On my 2001, the front plate was on the car when I bought it. On the 2002 I just bought, there is no front mount and there are no holes in the bumper.
I have seen more than a few with and without holes, and am wondering if this was dealer installed.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

Mine was specified to me left off (the dealer was told to NOT install the plate even though it was requried in CA). Car came with the mounting hardware in the trunk.

Still there. No holes in the bumper.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

I have no front plate on my M5 either. The dealer installs after arrival, however most states do require a front plate. There was a thread on this not to long ago. I decided I would just pay the fine, knock on wood, no fine yet!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

Mine came new with the front plate on. After a year like this and the desire to mount hidden radar system, I paid a local shop to fill the holes and repaint. I had the bumper off so it was not much effort to remove the skin and take it to the shop. They did a nice job, got some scratches out, etc... The car looks so much better with out a front plate.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

No front plate here. While they are technically required in HI, the police do not strictly enforce it.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

Mine came with a front plate holder, which I immediately ripped off! Now I have two annoying holes on my front bumper. Plates are required on the front in CT, but not enforced.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

Both front and rear are dealer installed. I recently looked at installing the rear plate on my MY2000 model, but evidently need some mounting hardware and instructions.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

Beamer_USA,

Try www.bumperplugs.com, 704.841.0911 to fill those holes. It requires drilling the holes to 1/4" and then inserting the plugs. They are mainly for Porsches, but when I called they do match some BMW colors. I have considered removing my front license plate, which was on the car when I bought it, but I would not be allowed to take my car on base.

Re: Were front plate mounts dealer installed?

I believe they must be dealer installed, probably on most if not all BMWs since not all states require front plates and the brackets/holes are ugly if they came the other way around and you had to remove them.

At my dealer in order to keep the front clean you have to sign a waiver saying you understand CA law requires them and that you won't hold the dealer responsible if you get a ticket. Obviously, they did that because they've been burned a few times by people not wanted to accept the consequences of their decision not to run a front plate when it's otherwise required.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."
