Re: Average oil change prices?

Oone of the cheaper ways to do it, if you have any 'car sense' at all, is to proccure the oil filter and the oil yourself, and instruct a mechanic you know on how to lift the car properly, and do the oil swap. Or, conversely, find a mechanic in the area who knows BMW's.

Last choice on the list: Have it done at a BMW dealer, about $90-120. (I was quoted $160 cdn. No thanks, I politely declined)

There are about 3-4 regulars on here from that area, so someone will chime in and 'splain who to have do it at a reasonable cost, and with some knowledge of the vehicle. Just a few more minutes..I'd suspect. They are all just getting home from work....

Re: Average oil change prices?

I believe I paid $90ish for my last oil service, in Atlanta at a dealer, I get it done every 3-5k miles.

Re: Average oil change prices?

Do it myself in 15 minutes. Much less annoying than having to speak with the dealer...

Re: Average oil change prices?

I just do it myself between dealer service using oil extractor, just for the cost of Castrol TWS and new oil filter.

Re: Average oil change prices?

$150 local $tealer, 5k intervals. Recently started doing it myself, after local $tealer screwed up my last oil service

Re: Average oil change prices?

$73 for oil filter and 8 quarts of 5W-30 BMW oil from the dealer (only need 7 of those quarts for the change though). Filter was actually cheaper from the dealer than it was form auto zone.

Shopping around from non-bmw dealers will probably save youe $20+, but my car was in for service so I had them throw the oil and filters in the trunk.

Regular oil changes I have done at the dealer under maintenance plan, but I do one myself between scheduled changes. 15,000 or so miles is a long time before changing the oil or filter. Seems that oil change intervals increased right about the time dealers started offering full maintenance. Coincidence????
