MkIV Nav English with German Accent?

I just received my MkIV Nav unit today. I purchased it off e-bay from a seller in Lithuania. I installed it this evening (took all of 5 minutes) and noticed when adjusting the nav volume that the lady speaking English has a German accent! Has anyone had a similar experience?

I'm trying to decide if I like the accent. I think I do- kind of adds to the uber-German feel of the car! I also think that I don't have the accept screen which is a good thing, but my software is 4-1/50, so if I go ahead and upgrade to v26 software I will lose that benefit? Is the benefit worth it? I screwed up and bought the the wrong type of DVD (DVD-CCC for front loading systems) so I can't fully test it right now. So I'll be putting the 2004.2 DVD-CCC and my old MkIII Nav up for sale.

For people who have had or heard multiple voices- does the British babe rule? Does the German accent get irritating after a while?

Re: MkIV Nav English with German Accent?

I think I have the German accent too. Just installed it a week ago, and haven't used it a lot, so I'm not bored with it yet. If I get bored, I imagine her as a nice blond German babe, and I'd be happy to listen to her annoying voice again

They have nice little pills for that sort of thing.

Is your old system going up for sale compatible with the smaller 00 year screen?
Does it include northern BC, Alberta, Sask.?
Mine doesn't and it pizzes me off.

Cheers,
Salty.

Re: MkIV Nav English with German Accent?

I installed an MKIV unit in my 2000 M5. 'plug and play': Upgraded MKII to MKIV

In 2 hours you should be up and running, and you can use the 4/3 display.

Uh Oh! Did I say that? Ummmm, not sure I meant that! Maybe I'm working too hard?

I'm not sure about compatibility. From what I have read, I believe that the MkIII is compatible with the older, smaller screens. I have the 2001.2 Region 8 CD (which I am also getting rid of) and I think it is for ALL of Canada, but I have only tested it between Vancouver and Bellingham so far...
