Dimple in Hood

Friends: Recently, I was using my Peake Tool to retrieve the fault codes and reset the SES light in my car. Stupidly, I inadvertently left the hard plastic case for the tool on top of my engine, and attempted to close the hood. (Hey, it was dark!)

Since the M5 is pretty tightly cowled, the Peake case put a small dimple in the skin of the hood. It's difficult to see, but it's a visible imperfection. The paint wasn't cracked or damaged, but the dimple is there nonetheless.

How should I deal with this problem? I assume that a body shop might be able to restore my hood without too much expense. Anybody have any relevant experience or suggestions?

Cheers, Mike

Re: Dimple in Hood

Do you have pictures? I am a carbody worker (i dent out cars and paint them). Most likely it can be fixed witout repainting the hood. 99% of the dimpels can be dented out carfully and it doesn`t cost much. I would do it for free for a fellow m5 owner, but i dont think you would bring your car to Amsterdam.

Re: Dimple in Hood

look up PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) in your area. Most dealers and body shops can provide this service very inexpensively. (they typically source it out to a third party who speciallizes in it.

Considering that you have good access from underneath, this should be a layup someone who is experienced.

Most bmw dealers have them and do it for a 100 bucks.

Re: Dimple in Hood

Agreed, I would go with a PDR specialist. They do amazing work! Be sure to go with someone who comes highly recommended in your area though. I would contact the dealership to see who they suggest you try.

Re: Dimple in Hood

Agreed, a paintless dent remover is the way to go. Should be no problem for them to fix this.
