How to get Dealer to replace MAFS under CPO??

Ok my CPO warranty runs out in 6/06.

Obviously before then, I shall be taking my M5
in for inspection 2, and everything else under the sun I can think of.
Hopefully I can find that Certain Last trip to Dealer thread by then.

Anyways.. after reading this stuff with the MAFS. Its a wearable item.
and can cause engine failure and etc etc when going bad.
So, when I take my car in for inspection 2, probably last visit(hopefully).
I want the STEALERSHIP to replace my MAFS..

But as you know. Ill probably get the company line and hear.
" nothing wrong with the MAFS " yada yada yada, and not do it.

SO. I was wondering. Is there anything I can say/do to the MAFS.
On the day of going to the dealership, so I can guarantee that
the MAFS get replaced by the dealership. Something that doesn't
show its been tampered with is prefered.

I know its a little unethical. BUT hey. its a dog eat dog world.
Plus its now common knowledge that MAFS go bad, real fast.
and BMW won't acknowledge the issue, like other manufacturers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: How to get Dealer to replace MAFS under CPO??

It's real easy.........Just down the street from the dealer pop the hood and take them out... limp into the dealer (or push into the dealer). Give him your keys and split!

Works every time........I did it with the clutch once and later at another dealer with the entire suspension.

Hey "it was there the last time I looked...Bmw has to do a better job making sure these things stop falling off!!!"

Well, as long as we are cheating just get a member to send you known BAD MAFs, substitute, and then return with new MAF's as spares. Cost would only be postage and beer money to co-operating member!!
Regards,
Jerry

Re: How to get Dealer to replace MAFS under CPO??

Hmm. Not that I care one whit about 'getting over on a stealer'..

But with MAFs running $115 in the GB, why not buy those for the spare?

TIme comes for the CPO end visit, run the maf fuel consumption test and if it fails, try to argue for a new BMW set- even if that fails you have your spare set at a minimal cost...

Re: How to get Dealer to replace MAFS under CPO??

MAFS are not only a warranty item but also a maintenance item- at least according to my dealer. What you should do is tell them the car feels less powerful to you and you are concerned that maybe the MAFS have worn out/ not providing optimum data. It depends on your car and mileage but the odds are if you have more than 20000 miles the readout will support you and they should replace them. Thats how it happened in my case.

Re: How to get Dealer to replace MAFS under CPO??

Don't get me wrong..
Im no CROOK...

$115 isn't much money. Or even $230 for a set plus shipping and etc.

But should I buy a set?? when EVERYONE knows its failure prone??

I got the Warranty.. I just know, even if the MAFS aren't working properly,
as long as it isn't setting off SES code, The dealership won't replace them.

So im just tring to avoid the run around.. Because we all know with in a year or two.
Its not a question of " WILL THEY GO BAD " its " WHEN WILL THEY GO BAD"

I'm not sure about this- if there are noticeable driveability issues, or you have a good relationship with the SA, they may be willing to listen to reason. But if the car is driving fine, and your fuel tests are running 100 (140 is 'as new') it might be hard to get them replaced.

A

PS The comments about 'poping out the parts' was funny... but the reply was even better! (sorry)
