Dashboard Display Problem

I recently noticed that some of the (for want of the technical term) "pixels" in the digital readout of the external temperature were out causing the numbers not to display completely. Anyone experience this and know what kind of a fix is involved? I'm going in for Inspection II next week (out of warranty) and wanted to know in advance whether it was worth having fixed or I should just live with it since the gauge not very accurate when it's warm out anyway.

Lots of threads on the board about this try a search you will find plenty I have just replaced mine on my 2000 M5 around $800 plus labor (1 hour).

Try searching on speedometer pixels. Many threads, see Leonora at BMWNA for repair costing 1 hour labor with free parts.

A very very common problem for most BMWs. In fact, someone should start a thread for tthose who have not had the problem and see if anyone answers.:7:
There is a related ongoing thread. Many dealers have replaced out of warranty clusters. BMW or the dealer has picked up the cost with the owner picking up 1 hour labor.
Or you can check into www.vdorepair.com for a permanent fix.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a search but didn't realize that pixel was in fact the technical term, so I didn't use it and tried "external temperature display problems" and "dashboard display problems" and didn't find what I was looking for. This is great help. I might try to bargain for just the labor charge but I'm not going to pay for a new instrument cluster at this point since the missing pixels so far are fairly innocuous.

I know that I'm a bit "off topic" but I would like to ask if a "fasten your seatbelt" warning appears on your board computer screen. In my '02 M5 it doesn't... The only "warning" I see is the small red seatbelt sign under the speedometer which goes off after a while..
Yes, it will last for about 15 seconds, then go off, leaving just the red icon. I know you can program what appears in the screen, but didn't think the Fasten Seatbelt would be an option. Do a search for programming or check the Manual, and maybe you will find it can be added back if that is what you want.

Jerry
