Curiosity: USA members and seatbelts?

Hey all,

I was watching a doco last night on Sep 11 (The Flight that fought back) and I noticed that in the couple of car shots they had, no-one was wearing a seat belt.

Is the low use of seatbelts that we see in the movies and associated media, an adequate representation of the US driving public? And given the HP of our cars, would the percentage of those wearing their seatbelts amongst M5 drivers be higher than average?

Just curious...

Cheers,
Aaron

Re: Curiosity: USA members and seatbelts?

I would say that seat belt usage if very high here now. Most all states have mandatory usage laws. Either that has worked or Darwin magic has taken care of the idiots.

I am not in the US but I know the first thing my passengers do when they get in my car is grab the seatbelts and put it on, back and front...

Buckle Up!

Most states require all occupants to be buckled up or you will get ticketed if noticed!

I would say that the majority of people here are using seatbelts, the local police are actually enforcing the laws around our high schools. Get those kids trained while they are young.

Firm belif in darwinism. However I only drive unless everyone in my car has the seat belt on. I always ask if they want to be caught dead sitting on the **** thing?!

Re: Curiosity: USA members and seatbelts?

I used to be a 'usually wear seatbelts if it is a long trip'.

Until my father was killed by a woman driving an unlicensed car without headlights at night on a back country road- he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Couple of miles from home. Died from the force of his chest hitting the steering wheel. Over 20 years ago...

Our family is now a seatbelt family. Bike riding? - Helmet. Horse back?- Helmet, etc, etc

Every once in a while I will see a family with kids bouncing around without belts- I just want to slap the parent silly...

Re: Curiosity: USA members and seatbelts?

The only movie I have seen recently where seatbelts made an appearance was "The Transporter 2".

Frank: "Whats the first thing we do when getting into a mans car?"
Kid puts seatbelt on

Re: Curiosity: USA members and seatbelts?

Always on, as most of the people I'm around. I'm 40 now and it's hard to believe we used to ride around as toddlers in my mothers stationwagon in the back without seat belts and with the rear window down. For that fact she used to leave us in the car while she went shopping. It seems really stupid now but I remember it being the norm back then. Jonny

Seatbelts are a must! Not just because it's the law, but because it saves lives!
