All you South Florida members - how did you fare with Wilma? After four days I still had no power or phones - drove to Orlando and am staying here until things are back to normal. Good news - the beast is safe.

No power, lots of peripheral damage, like fences, trees and screenings, but that's all. Running power off of my camper conversion van, so we are better than most. We have fridge and water (well water, so I can run off the generator), although I can only run one at a time on my 2.8 kw generator.
Only car damage was a busted Euro light on my Audi quattro, and Beast is as dirty as it has ever been, but all OK. She fired right up and was ready to roll!
We may go to ORL on Sat to see our daughter at UCF, fill up some gas cans and do do some laundry.
Regards,
Jerry (Wilma survivor-so far!!)

Hang in there Jerry...sounds like you've got it under control. I've been there with Fran in 1996 here in Raleigh and Hugo in 1989 in Charlotte. With Hugo we didn't have power or water for 6 days while my wife's parents who lived closer in the Charlotte city limits didn't get power back for 3 weeks.
I tell ya, I had to laugh at the people complaining that "Bush and the federal government" screwed them over yesterday since a truck with ice didn't show up? Man, back when Fran hit Raleigh in 1996 (~80mph cat 1 after coming this far inland), it was a mess around here for weeks. We had 5 trees on the house, and lost a total of 34 trees in our yard. We were lucky...without power for only 4 days. Some were without power around here for 2-3 weeks afterward. I don't recall anyone blaming Clinton and the federal government at the time. Everyone took responsibility for themselves and helping out others...times have changed I guess.
Hopefully, things will be back to some semblance of normal before you know it.
Cheers,
Chuck

Thanks for the words of encouragement!! The rub here is that no one expected this bad of a storm. We were told to expect anywhere from Cat 1 to Trop Storm. We didn't even put up shutters!
This was worse than Francis or Jeanne last year. Winds were stronger, and it must have been at least a Cat 3! Add to that the forward speed of about 25 mph, and the cold air pushing through, and there were hundreds of mini tornados that did lot of damage.
As to supplies, u are right. Gov Jeb Bush told people they were warned to have food and water for 72 hours. He explained that after a storm it takes a day or two to gather supplies, get roads cleared, etc. Everyone should be prepared for at least 72 hours!!
We are doing pretty well, although we would have stocked up a little more had the severity prediction been more accurate. But no matter, all is well, the Beast is humming and life goes on. At least we have hurricane warnings, better than earthquakes, and in south Florida, we never have to shovel snow!!
Regards,
Jerry
Glad to hear fellow Floridians are ok, after Wilma.
We are fine here in WPB .....
Slowly getting back to normal .....
Waited 1 hour in line today for gas and was limited to $30, cash only ...... and only 93oct available @ $2.99/gal so net was 10 gallons. Sure those SUVers are hurting.
Power is back, phone is back, Cable/Internet is back, cellphone is back .......
Hey, I'm glad to hear you all are doing pretty well down that way. It did seem like the storm, even as strong as it once was, did sneak up on the eastern coast a bit--too bad.
But I have to say I am concerned about Jerry having enough clean clothes
Anita
