MK4 NAV upgrade poll

OK, I am still confused whether if the MK4 NAV is a true plug and play for cars equipped with MK3. I've heard some people had to bring in their car to the dealer to be re-coded and some people claimed that no coding was necessary for the NAV to work. So here is a quick poll to see how many people had to had their car coded.

Re: MK4 NAV upgrade poll

plug and play for me, although i went from mk2 to mk4. If you do code it, you'll get the accept screen. If you leave it uncoded, no accept screen (assuming it's a brand new unit). Distances will be in yards or meters however (i.e. UK mode).

I second that. Exactly the same experience as Mike just described. (plug and play, uncoded, yards, no accept screen, no emmergency function)

Re: MK4 NAV upgrade poll

I did it last weekend. Plug and play. Hooked it up and changed the language. Then I updated the firmware with the British babe....but that was optional.

British babe - no way - how the sake did you get that? I've been hoping there is a way to do change it. I heard it on my friend's car in Europe and the accent just does it for me, it's like Liz Hearly talking to you. ;-o)

And so much more 'proper' - she sais "you have reached your final destination" as opposed to the simple American "you have arrived!"

Re: MK4 NAV upgrade poll

This is encouraging. Since you guys didn't have to code it, how acurate is your position on the map compared to your old NAV? Any stange behavior to report with the new NAV?

Upgraded unit from MKIII to MKIV with no trouble at all. Plug and play. Currently running v26 with British Babe and loving every minute of it. :

Re: MK4 NAV upgrade poll

So have people just been going to eBay to pick up the DVD units? If so, what can you expect to pay?

I have noticed from $650 - $1000 seems to be the range for the MKIV. There is that guy in Germany who seems to be the most regular advertiser.

Any suggestions? I just got my 16:9 screen and need to get the plastic frame. I currently have a MKII unit.
