Does anyone have any picture of stock MAF v.s Dinan upgraded aluminum mafs? Reason being I bought the car that supposedly had the upgraded MAFs but I want to compare to make sure the previous owner didn't take off the maf and ecu before I bought the car. I did see the welding of the MAF bung to the body of the MAF, so I think my maf's are not the plastic type but I just want to be sure.

if your mafs are not plastic, they're not stock. I don't have any pictures of mine, but if you go to www.dinanbmw.com you can find pics under their e39 M5 page.

Hi,

Thanks, I already went to Dinan's site but picture isn't very clear. I can't really tell if mine are plastic or not since it's still got that black coating on it but I did see "welding" wripples for the MAF sensor plug bung to the body of the maf, so I am assuming it's not plastic since plastic mold should be a 1 piece and can't be welded...can anyone look at their stock maf and see if it's got any welding wripples?

that sounds like the dinan mafs. The dinan ones have a black crinkle paint finish, the oe are smooth plastic, no weld marks on the oe.
I can try to take a pic tomorrow of the dinan mafs if you want.

here's another way, the tubing from the mafs to the plenum is plastic on the oe mafs, a gray silicone tube on the dinan.
