Help, Wheel thief lurking in my neighborhood!!!!

Guys this never happened ever in this neighborhood in fact it is very uncommon for someone to do this around here. A person just bought a brand new 2005 E46 M3 and today got his wheels taken last night. He had no wheel locks and I am sure I am the next target at some point.

I have done my searches and found that the Bavauto was considered pretty good over OEM wheel locks. I know nothing is full proof but I am just looking for a good deterent. Any recommendations ? All these search results date back to 2000 but I didn't see anything recent, so I can see what is out there now.

I actually plan on picking up some OEMs wheel locks from the dealer tomorrow and order some other ones that would just be a second lock on each wheel.

What do you all think, am I going overboard ??

Not at all - that's the hot ticket - two different types of wheel lock on each wheel. Consider the German McGard Ultra wheel locks from Beastpower.

Re: Help, Wheel thief lurking in my neighborhood!!!!

I use the BMW wheel locks also. The problem with them is that they're easy to loosen by jamming a bar in the open head and twisting or by grabbing and turning the head. A spinning-head design is much more difficult to loosen.

I actually park in a private community not a garage, similar to a parking lot a little more personal. BMW locks I heard are not bad but I think I need that added layer of security with something else.

Re: Help, Wheel thief lurking in my neighborhood!!!!

Well, I live in a neighborhood where it is rather risky for wheels to get stolen. I never had a problem with mine. They just don't fit any other car... The market for these wheels is just to small, so no-one would ever steel them.
For my E36, I have added them as an extra on one of the papers I had to fill in for the insurance. If these get stolen, I get €2,500 from the insurance company.

It would be really nice if you could move to another state, I was born in Maryland (joined the military), Not only is it one of the most expensive places to live for housing, but it's turning into one of the vehicle theft capitals of the USA, the guys lucky the thief didn't jack him for the car or steal the car, during my military stay in England I flew to Maryland to visit family for two weeks, I was in my sister-in-law's house for 20 minutes, looked outside and low/behold someone
had stole my rental car (turned a fun vacation into a miserable trip.) If you don't have a garage (with a nice doberman pincher inside the garage) , you might consider selling your car before you wake up one morning and discover an
empty parking spot or moving far away from Maryland, especially away from Prince George County.

That is crazy about your rental. However I can definately seeing this happen more in PG county but realistically it is not as bad as you mentioned at all. Like I said it is rare in my area to have anything much less your wheels or car stolen. PG county as well as DC is considered one of the highest areas for car theft, etc. In all it really doesn't happen often at all. I am in Rockville, MD which is Montgomery County, this is a better county interms of that stuff but realistically it happens everywhere just some more than others that's all.

Back to the point though there is no way in hell am I selling my car or moving to another state because of someone trying to jack my wheels, that is just crazy.

Around me I may stand out interms of a BMW but there are other high end automobiles such as AMG CL 55's, Audi RS6, tons of E46 M3's, Range Rovers, too many Lex's, etc in my neighborhood.
