Avus vs. LAMans blue?

Is there a big difference? Does anyone remember if there is a photo of them side by side? Many thanks. Still on the hunt. Jonny

Hello Jonny.

Please use the 'search' feature. This has been discussed a number of times before.

Le Mans Blue & Avus Blue difference

Hope this helps.

Re: Avus vs. LAMans blue?

There's a noticeable difference, and Avus is the best Blue that BMW ever made.

It is a verifiable scientific fact that LeMans is better.

Looks like Philip and I are on the same page.
Sorry guys, but secret inside sources from BMW AG leaked me this letter:
"We have created the best blue ever, and we shall call it Avus. No other BMW blue will ever look better, but we plan to replace it with blues of lesser quality to keep the resale of Avus higher."
See, right from the source...

Re: Avus vs. LAMans blue?

BMW actually withdrew Avus blue and replaced it with LeMans because the demand for Avus was screwing up the inventories, since any customer that saw Avus was no longer interested in the other colors. They therefore "drabbed it up" so that LeMans was sold in equal quantities as the other colors. Unfortunately, there was still a lag period during which customers who had seen an Avus M5 on the street mistakenly assumed LeMans was the same color and bought LeMans. Indeed, several salesmen were reprimanded for falsely advising customers that the LeMans would look as good as they remembered in natural light, and that the showroom lights, being flourescent, were to blame. This explains why there are so many LeMans M5s from 2001 on the road.

Re: Avus vs. LAMans blue?

There's obviously some debate here! Both colors look great. I've been on the hunt for a lemans M5 but recently a 2000 Avus with blk/gry interior came available 10 miles from home. He wants around $35K and has 51K miles. Checked with the BMW mechanic and its been well taken care of with recent replacement of MAF's. I'll go see it soon but I was jist wondering if there were any Differences that someone could explain. Many thanks again

P.S. I'll let you know what the best color is shortly
