My CD nav is always making noises when trunk open, normal?

Hi.

Whenver I am in the trunk, it seems that the CD nav unit is making a racket.

It sounds like the cd is ejecting but the cd never comes out.

Is this normal?

Ryan

BTW...car is not running or on.

It comes on again when you unlock the car or open the trunk. Something to do with verifying it's own position I guess. So it should only stop if you leave the trunk open for a loooong time, but I've never had the patience for that myself

Re: My CD nav is always making noises when trunk open, normal?

It should spin down after about a minute if you leave the trunk open and don't open or close the doors. It takes the GPS a few seconds to startup when the car is started - longer with the older non-DVD units. So each time you access the car, the electronics assume you will be driving it and wake up the GPS so you don't have to wait once you are buckled in and driving.

Important note here - if you are disconnecting the battery, it is critical that you allow the GPS unit to shut down before you remove the battery cable. Open the trunk and wait until the light on the GPS unit is out. Failure of the GPS unit is possible if you don't follow this procedure. Most people suggest a 5 minute wait to be safe.
