Help Diagnosis this CD Nav problem.

Symptoms.

Nav screens has a swiggly line.
Like the horizontal hold is broken.

When playing CD or Radio, it will
play about two songs, and go off.
Then have to turn off the radio and back
on to play another 2 songs.

So is the above problem, Software or hardware related???

Sucks to have a crapy dvd system, which is failure prone that
ties into the radio and stuff.

thanks any help will be great

Re: Help Diagnosis this CD Nav problem.

You car is a '00, correct?

With the original CD-based GPS?
Do you have an updated display - is the cassette player to the left of the screen (original 4:3 display) or behind it (updated 16:9 widescreen display)?
Is the screen rolling or is there a line running across the screen?
Did it work normally before?
When did it start behaving this way?

When radio playback stops, what does the display show?

Re: Help Diagnosis this CD Nav problem.

Ok its the older cd based Nav. with the Small screen
with the Cassette player to the Left of the monitor.

According to my buddy.. the BMW SA told him that
the problem is in the Module thats in the trunk.
But the monitor and etc is fine..

So what do I need to do to fix this?? cheap preferablly

Re: Help Diagnosis this CD Nav problem.

The SA believes it is the GPS module? If so, not much to do but find another one. There are lots of MKIII units on Ebay, as many people have done the upgrade to the MKIV / DVD system.

Probably 300-400 for a used MKIII
About 800-900 currently for the MKIV new

What's the production date of the car?

Re: Help Diagnosis this CD Nav problem.

Not sure when the production date is.
unfotunately.

Im skeptical about buying stuff on the internet.
If I was to decide on buying a used Nav off the internet.
How can I be sure im not buying another defective Nav system?

Dealer wants my first unborn kid.. So they are out the question..

thanks folks for all your help
