For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
There was recently an auction on eBay with a Nav screen and DVD computer. The seller resides in Germany, claims to work for BMW but has zero feedback. The auction ended with a price of over $2,000 for the two pieces. The buyers identity was kept private.
I e-mailed the guy and asked if he could sell me just a DVD computer if he had one. He said would sell me one for $400 U.S. That's real cheap. Now, my question is: Anyone want to try this? I'm on the fence. Something tells me it's not quite right but then again, I'd like to think it is. The old adage...if it's too good to be true, then it is. If it does pan out, then it's group buy time. Thoughts?

I would ask him for the BMW part numbers as well as look at his eBay feedback.
Sometimes, people sell stuff cheap to clean out the closet.
Just my 2 cents.

I'd becareful, especially with the zero feedback. Offer escrow and if he stops replying, you've got your answer

Yeh, his history on eBay.de (Germany) is also zero (I believe you need a seperate account for US vs. Germany?)
I did find a guy with more of a history who wants $500 plus shipping. Seems a bit more legit but well see.

I've seen MKIV's go for the 400's range on ebay.

Re: For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
Please let me know as I have a dead MKII in a 2000 and would like to replace it - for that price, I would just go straight to a MKIV and then try to get the screen when I could.

Anyone know what the dealer charges for the MKIV?

Re: For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
I was quoted $2800 for the dealer replacement. I think that is full margin, without any negotiation.

Re: For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
OK Guys-
Just be very careful- there are a few ebay sales that are selling "oem bmw navs"... this has been discussed at length over on yahoo bmwnav group, but mostly around the mark 3.
The problem is that these are NOT upgradeable.
Also- As you may know, the Rover nav units are the same, with different software- they may work to some extent, and are made by the OEM (vdo) but they are not identical.
Many of these problem units do not have BMW part numbers and are made by vdo with 'locked' software. (This prevents conflict with BMW's contract)
I would ONLY purchase based on BMW part numbers- that the units are BMW parts, distributed by BMW with BMW original part number and warranty seal tags.

Re: For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
I have been avoiding the Rover listings on eBay, but this is good to know. Thanks for the info - I will make sure that any MKIV is BMW. I am only looking at BMW for MKII or MKIII replacements for my broken unit. BTW, anyone have a "fair price" on a used MKII?

Re: For those looking for MK4 Nav computer: would you....
I'd be careful with some of the German ebay auctions, someone I have dealt who buys and sells nav bits over here got very burnt by a German ebayer to the tune of £1100. He bought a full nav system but all the stuff was broken/faulty. German ebayers have a common practice of listing items as "Private Sale" which he says in German law = no come back at all.
Leaving -ve feedback doesn't recompence £1100...
Saying that there will be genuine sellers of good products on German ebay.
You should be able to bid\buy using you ebay.com account on any ebay site.
FYI Used MKIV computer go for around £415, MKIII's £300-350 and MKII's £240ish here in the UK.
A new nav computer from the stealer is approx £1400
