diff. 40% lock up or stock lock up????

which set up is more optimum for canyon/backroads driving, a 3.45 differential with "stock lock up or 40% lock up?

What´s your driving style? Drift or non-drift?

What is the road surface?

Going to higher slip limiting percentage factor in the diff will increase understeer a bit.

Stock works very well on both road and track for me, wouldn't have it any other way. Haven't tried anything else though, but can't imagine it getting any better than it is stock

Robert,

Your driving style at the track is non-drift, right?

If you were into drifting, or driving rallye, you would probably like a bit higher
percentage than the stock 25%.

BTW, if a car is driven with DSC off and a bit of wheelspin now and then, it wears the internals of the limited slip mechanism fast. I think there are many M5s with non-working LSC diffs, without the owner even knowing about it.

(I had the diff on my car replaced for this reason three years ago.)

Non-drift 99% of the time, yes.....allthough it's fun to play a little too sometimes: ShortClip that day at the track, I was only beaten by a turbo porsche, e30 m3 (small track) and a mitsu evo, all of them had r-tires i believe. For some reason, modified escort cosworths, a skyline and some other quite fast cars couldn't keep up....a little OT but fun

Is stock 25% ? I Thought that it was variable slip diff on the e39 M5 ? And it sure feels like 100% diff brake when going sideways. DSC is always off when I push the car, it gives too much interference. The diff is one of the things that really impresses me on the M5, and I wouldn't have it any other way

A little more OT (sorry, but not worth starting a new thread about

), at the last track event, my ABS sensor on the rear left broke, and that caused the speedo, abs and dsc to fail..... Since CBC? is always on (even if dsc is off) i had becomed a bit spoiled with this feature, and the car forgives me if i don't make the brake-in before turns, allowing braking in the beginning of a turn(i know, but sometimes there the speed is miss jugded) With the lack of cbc and abs i found myself on a couple of scary sideways drifts in turns, praying for the tires to grip before leaving the tarmac at serious velocity.

The M5 really is amazing on track with the H&R Coilover, considered it's weight.
