Upgrading V1

My unit is about 8 years old now. will cost roughly 200 to upgrade to get smaller case and POP protection.

Is it worth it to do now and Lidatek later; or do I put the money into Lidatek now and keep the old unit which I think is working fine but is just behind the times in terms of technology.

I know this is an individual thing but I love my V1 and do not want to simply buy something else so the choice is either upgrading V1 or keeping old unit and getting LIdatek.

Also, has anyone had any experiencing upgrading their V1's and is there anything that I should ask for or do to ensure good results presuming I go this route.

Thanks.

This would depend on your experience with local law enforcement, where you drive the most and what your experience has been with getting tickets etc.

Here is VA they do use laser but much more radar since detectors are illegal.

The V1 is def the bomb for radar protection - laseer not so much (read none)

Since you state it will cost $200 usd to update I am going to assume you got that from the V1 website when you entered your current v1 serial number to find out about an upgrade. If you unit is 8 years old and you have not previously upgraded, then did not the list of upgrades indicate that your 8 year old v1 was missing a lot of upgraded capabilities (e.g., increased sensitivity, increased range for detection, etc.)? By the way instead of upgrading your old unit they will ship you a new unit - check the serial numbers and you will see the change (also the new unit is smaller).

If it were me, I would have already Fed Ex'ed (next day delivery) my old v1 to valentine. And it is cheaper than buying a new unit. Do not forget to get the update form from the website to include with the unit you are sending in to upgrade.

Concerning Laser, check out the Lidetak LE-30. V1 is great for radar detection / warning, but for laser it is okay for detection but not for advance warning.

If you go to the Valentine One site and put in your serial number, it will list the new features you will get, and the price to upgrade. Mike Valentine also puts his recommendation on upgrading your unit on the site. On my 5 and my 7 year old unit, he said the upgrade probably wasn't necessary for good protection. I took his good advice. I still have no tickets while my V1 was on for more than 20 years. This is pretty good protection.
