Background on car: Eisenmann Sport exhaust installed 2007, SS headers and cats installed 2008, ESS kit installed 2009, 92mm pulley and water/meth 2010, Evolve/RK update kit consisting of Aeromotive fuel pump, Bosch green 42lb injectors, RK plenum plates, and Evolve tune in 2012

Dyno from 2012:

To get ready for the 88mm pulley, I checked for boost leaks:

I could hear a distinct leak coming from under the plenum. I first tested the under-plenum piping:

Everything was tight so I installed the plates and trumpets, and with pressure I could tell I was getting a leak around a few of the trumpet/plate junctions so I sealed them up.

92mm vs 88mm

Dyno time:

Water meth setup is an Aquamist running 50/50, 0.4mm pre-compressor jet, 2 0.7mm jets in the charge pipe

Before and after Nick G/CES Motorsport custom tune:

550whp with a conservative tune up to the limit of knock, redline was dropped from the ESS 7200rpm to 7000, 8 lbs of boost. 550 was the number I was hoping for and John Couchell at CES Motorsport and Nick Glantzis nailed it.

Great results and thanks for sharing! I have the same setup as yours with 92mm pulley except SS headers and cats (mine are stock) so we can make a dyno chart comparison shortly when I get the results.

What's the length of the belt you're using? I'm planning to install 88mm pulley in the future so I need to get the right length.

Thanks! They tuned a car with stock headers and cats, and otherwise the same setup as mine. They achieved 536whp.

I used a 1504mm belt, mine was a Gates K060586 more specifically.

Nice work!

So the headers netted 15 whp and also less boost pressure, which should be good for longevity. How many miles on your car?

Thanks! I assumed the headers/cats would have netted more than 15whp. As Peter mentioned above, I had heard 550 was a safe limit for this motor so I was very pleased with that number and was OK with them stopping at that limit. The car has about 48K miles on it.

That's a very nice bump in power!

Thanks, yes it is. You can definitely feel it:biggrin:

The car hasn't been stock since 2006 so it's hard to remember. 650hp is pretty quick. The broad torque curve and smoothly increasing hp curve make it so nice and predictable. I have a turbo m3 which is much more peaky and violent, so I prefer the m5. And the roar of the s62 is soooo nice...

Very nice

Thanks for a detailed explanation.

So if I understand correctly, the shortcut answer is that hp is the limiting factor (no matter how you get there) and not boost.

Jerry

Photobucket just eliminated an infinite number of diy's, car builds, etc. Completely sucks.

NICE!!!!!!!

Hey my friend....been ages since I have been on.

Did you dyno tune for the meth? Or are you just using for cooling?

When I tried going to the 88mm pulley back a few years ago, I was having belt slip and we could see the ESS mounting bracket deforming just a bit. Are you still using that same bracket?

Cheers,
Bri

I am alive Peter! Thanks for the welcome. Beast still running strong, although I believe it is finally time to do (redo) suspension.

Since photobucket sucks, I figured I'd at least add the before and after dyno pic to the thread. This is the 92mm pulley vs the 88mm with the Nick G/CES Motorsport tune.
