NAV or GPS bug? - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

Hi everyone. I tried to do a search on prior threads but couldn't find anything. So here goes...

Recently, I put in the latest nav disc (v2005.2). Yesterday, I was driving eastbound on a bridge over water. When I looked down at the nav screen, the display indicated that I was not only in the water but headed north (???).

Once I got off the bridge, the nav seemed to behave correctly.

Any idea(s) what might be causing this? If I recall correctly, my prior car, an LS430, had a re-synchronization procedure for the GPS. Does the M5 have such a procedure?

Probably just a local error in the map database. Don´t worry about it.
Try passing the same bridge again in the same direction. If it is repeatable, it is definitely the map database.

I noticed the same thing the first time out after I upgraded to DVD NAV MK IV. The map showed the general area, but had me going over open land, not the correct road. That night on the way home all was ok! I guess the system had to re-sync. Hope yours does and all goes well.
