Driver's seat not working

Hey all:

I'm on a weekend road trip and for some reason my driver's seat will not adjust at all. I checked both fuses and they are fine. Passenger seat works fine. Mirrors all work fine. Just can't move the seat at all.

Any ideas?

Happy fourth!

A loose connector would be my only other guess. There appear to be several under the seat, some are near the front and may be reachable. Good luck.

Re: Driver's seat not working

My guess would also be a loose connector, keep us posted

I've had that happen frequently on my 528i. On one occasion, the back fell from behind me and I almost lost control on a busy and bumpy bridge with curves. I couldn't lift it forward to hold me up. I had this problem prior and BMW tested it but said they found no faults so they didn't do anything about it. After that big incident, I took it to an independent shop and the GT1 found faults everywhere. The owners manual says to contact the department of transportation for safety issues. BMW should be held liable if anyone is hurt from this. Otherwise, they should stop being negligent and do something about it before someone gets hurt.

I have similar problems on my M5. Eventually, it will get to the point in about 30K miles where it will move on its own while I'm driving - just like my 528i. I have my steering wheel not memorize it's position on video. I need to find a way to catch the seat move on video.

One way to gain control of the seat again is to press a different memory number. Then, you will have to reset memory 1-3 all over again. These cars have a mind of their own.

Re: Driver's seat not working

Unfortunately, pressing any of the memory buttons doesn't do the trick. Looks like it's time to visit the dealer.

Certainly sounds electrical. I know you checked the fuses; is there anything else that is not working?? Just for grins, swap the fuse with another and confirm that is not the issue. Only takes a few minutes and miraculously, it doesn't cost anything!! Also, see if there are wires running through the drivers side door jamb (could be inside a protective sheath, I don't remember without looking inside the door); if so, a wire could have gotten pinched.
Regards,
Jerry
