I totaled my 02 Jet Black 3 weeks ago (not my fault and pissed ) and have been on the hunt ever since. I finally located a pristine replacement, but in Carbon Black. I know there are alot of opinions on the board about color (among other things), but I have a simple question...
Which "black" do you prefer and why?
I know all you Sterling Grey guys are going to tell me what you think , but I'm hoping to hear pros/cons about Jet vs Carbon.
Having owned both, an 01 Jet BLk M5, and an 02 Carbon Black, I would have to say that I love both equally. However, Although I like the Jet black just a tad bit more because of it's rich Darkness, there are many other manufacturers that have black cars and felt it minimized the exclusivity a bit.
The Carbon Black on the other hand has a bit more character. Deep Black in the shade and deep blue, depending on the viewing angle in the sun. It has what appears to be a bit more activity happening when it's standing still.
So, In the end I would say get the Best car you can find with All the options you want in either color. Don't pick either color until you test drive and fall in love with that specific car.
Good Luck

I must say that I have always thought that Carbon Black Metallic looks much better in person, than in pictures. It's a very difficult color to catch on film, and looks different in so many lights.
Beastpower has some photos that I took of my 2001 CBM, in the BBS LM wheel section, with the staggered wheel set.
It's one of those cases where you can't go wrong either way, but will probably feel like you did, once you make the choice.

Mine's a carbon black. It's an awesome color! Black at night, kind of dark blue at sunlight.
It looks good even when the car is dirty. However it shows scratches in a more evidently way. And it is true, it looks way better in person than in pictures.
I had a 2003 330 in jet black, but I must say i am in love with the carbon black! Its uniqueness is its charm...

Thanks so much for your replies...I truly appreciate it! I feel great about going CB, but I've always been a sucker for a freshly waxed black car! It's true you don't see many CB's, so does anyone know the answer to this?
Was Carbon only available on the M5?
Who else offers Carbon? Porsche?
Anyway, thanks again.
P.S. Ocean's, appreciate the excellent pics! Your tips are sick. Those can't be stock, right? If I buy this CB, I'm going Eisenmann Race or Kelleners (from SS & x-pipe). I need more decibels!
Don't get so hung up on the color of the car. As long as you manage to find a nice classy color combo, which isn't hard to to do with the M5, you will love it. Remember, its the driving experience that counts, and sense the M5 looks good in nearly every color, there is nothing to worry about.
