Recaro seat brackets for E39 M5

I am looking to mount Recaro Sport seats in my 2002 E39 M5.

It is a big project, and one issue is the seat mounting brackets. I know I can get Planted or Corbeau E39 brackets, but each of these has issues. The Planted brackets do not have the proper seat belt tensioner mounting holes, and I am not crazy about the workmanship of the Corbeau (used to be Wedge Engr) brackets.

I know Recaro makes brackets for the E39 (pn 86.04.16A/26A), but they specifically do not specify the M5 model, only the other E39 fitments. My conversations with Stefan at Griffin Motorworks in Berkeley has not brought much in clarification, except that Recaro will only assure fitment in the E39 models listed, not the M5.

Given the fact that many folks have fitted sport seats from the M5 into other E39 models, I am puzzled as to why Recaro does not list the M5. I could just order the Recaro brackets and hope for the best, but these are over $750 and I do not want to get stuck with them if they don't fit.

I also wonder if anyone knows if these Recaro brackets have the proper anchors for the B pillar seat belt adjustment bowden cable? I know for a fact that the Planted and Corbeau brackets do not.

Any input would be appreciated.

I have Recaro Sport Topline (in caramel). The brackets came with when I bought them third hand, but they mounted right up, and are Recaro, afaik. Also, the rails I have maintain the clip for the B pillar

Hey mgdmb, sorry to drift off topic, but what kind of pedals are those? Looks like a convenient design for heel/toe.

Picked them up from bimmian.com 5-6 years ago. They're better for heel/toe than the driver of the car - had another track day at Laguna Seca on Monday... it was... moist.

IIRC, they make one that is like mine but all the way up the loud pedal, would probably be a better option if you're tracking and proficient at it...

I have purchased a second hand electric seat £25 or so....

I plan to cut the bottom and top off and use the mechanism to mount a frame to my sparco monza.

With a bit of work and steel and welding should cost Max £50 and be electric.

I will update when I have more of a play with the seat I got.

I understand most M5 enthusiast or any high end vehicle owner are pretty thorough when reading instructions and like clean hassle free fitment for the prices being marked up for those cars.

Truth is sometimes depending on the application and how uncommon the set up will be you just need to be open minded to the "make it work" attitude

When I researched best application was option was VAC motorsports floor mounts attached to Recaro "no tab sliders" and Recaro Side mounts.

I ended up with a less ideal floor mount already with sliders, Recaro side mounts on driver and Macht Schnell side mounts for passengers.
I got the harness from non M seats so no seat belt or air bad light would come on.

Needles to say they work, they feel great and I always get the second look when they notice the seats in an M5, still uncommon. I'm happy

My set up below

2003 TiAg M5

-ESS Tuning - SuperSprint Headers - Mishimoto Catch Can- Magnaflow X Pipe and Cans
-CKS Coilovers Swift Springs - Front and Rear Dinan Sway Bars And Strut Bars - BBS RGRs - MH Stud Kit
-Dinmann Steering Wheel and CF Trim - Euro Front Lower Dash
-Dinmann CF Headlight Insert in OEM Xeno - VIS HOOD - Exotics Tuning Front Lip and CF Diffuser - Eurodyne CF side Skirts - HM Style Rear LIP - CF Trunk and Roof Spoiler - Mtech T-Bar

I've used Wedge Engineering brackets for my last 3 cars. They have all the proper mounting holes, and can be ordered to accept the tabbed Recaro sliders.

Recaro SRD for life! (At least until I can get my hands on a pair of Sportster CS in bovine...)
