Got my recall letter in the mail last weekend. Annoying, but can't BMW them for taking a conservative approach to this.

"This recall campaign involves the Takata PSDI-4 inflator which entered the spare parts supply chain, and may have been installed in vehicles at dealers during service visits."

My letter, received today, says the airbag inflator MAY HAVE been replaced with a Takata inflator if the airbag module was previously replaced. Since I have owned the car since 18,000 miles (and 1.5 years under original owner), I am pretty comfortable I am in the clear. Nonetheless, I will schedule this in the near future.

Note that my letter is going to X5 owners as well as 5 series owners for 2001-2003. Recall Campaign # 17v-047.

I just received the recall letter yesterday - MY 2002, 11/2001 build. I guess I'll have it done.

Got my letter as well. Going to do an alignment while I'm making the trip.

2001 M5 - Carbon black on black (purchased 2-2016)
- Stock for now, catching up on maintenance first...
2003 Tahoe Z71 - 600hp, E85, supercharged, cammed and bolted
- Much faster (and less reliable) than the M5

Just to clarify, this recent recall (3/19/17) is in regards to service as mentioned above. If the vehicle had the original airbag replaced it could have been replaced with a faulty one. This applies to 2001-2003 E39 and E53. The 2001 E39 did not have a takata bag, but it could have one if it was ever replaced.

i have a 2001 that i am 99.9% sure has never been replaced thus is not faulty, but I will still have it checked to be sure.

I received my recall letter in July 2015 for my MY2003 and the letter said no parts available at the time. A second letter was supposed to be sent when they have the parts but I still haven't received such letter.

Got my letter in the mail yesterday as well to have the airbag module checked and replaced if necessary. No record of it ever being replaced, but better safe than sorry I suppose
