Unusual Question - How to make my car not quite so loud :)

Hey all,

So; I love my car. I even love how loud it is.

However; when I start it in the morning - it wakes everyone in the house up. I've even tried "Flinstone-ing" it out of the garage and starting it outside

It has a great exhaust setup; and on the road it sounds like an F1 (which I love). It's a Supersprint setup with race cats and Jed's unicorn headers. I'd like to see what I can do to quiet it down at idle without hurting performance.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm going to code the cold start high idle out - that's on the list.

You're funny. Either own the sound all 4bangers would kill for or go back to stock.

It's not just awesome muscle car loud. It's silly loud. The other car in the garage is methanol injected supercharged M3 with a headers, no cats, and a rogue diablo exhaust. And it sounds quite tame in comparison.

My friends Chevelle SS isn't this loud. I think it's the "drone" more than the noise. I'll see if I can get a recording.

My brand new SS Camaro with the LT1 is quite loud and obnoxious at start up. Mellows out and is very quiet under normal conditions. Too quiet for my tastes. Anyway this pretty much goes with the territory of a big V8 in a modern car. In fact I looked at hellcats recently and man that car is super loud and obnoxious on startup until it warms up a bit. Bone stock.

Does it have an aftermarket X pipe? Resonators? Stock X pipe (actually an "h" pipe) and stock resonators will usually keep noise at a reasonable level at lower rpms.

Just kidding, I got rear ended by a person on their phone in my 2000 M5 six speed. Just enough to knock the exhaust off and screw up the radio. Replaced with Dinan system. I loved it. Wife and I assume neighbors didn't. I only come home once a day

Did your tune delete the Secondary Air Pump? If you really want to quiet it down you can sell me the Jed's headers at a reasonable discount and put on my manifolds.

Subscribed for suggestions...

I also have headers, race cats and a muffler delete (stock resonator) and while there's no drone at any RPM, it is quite loud - even around town and not getting it over 4k RPMs. Thinking I may try a Dinan setup this year to quiet it down, although with headers and race cats there's probably not much we can do but revel in the misery of others
