FINALLY, I changed the fuel filer, it was BAD, I could barely blow through it, it has not been replaced since 2004, EKKS! I hit 127 maybe even higher, I still have to drive so more miles, and I dont want to bounce off redline because I have the TMS 7400 redline chip. I have spark plugs to replace as well, and maybe the ckps at some point but I AM ECSTATIC that its running right! It feels a LOT faster then it did and I thought it was quick before, haha.
Another successful testimony as to the importance of preventive maint. on these cars. Glad it worked for you TJ. The other news,is that if your fuel filter is that bad, it has been putting extra strain on the fuel pump. How many miles on your car? Have you / previous owner changed Pre-CAT O2 sensors?

I have just under 100K on the car. I have replaced everything within the last few thousand miles, I just need to do spark plugs which just came yesterday. I am going to wait a little while on the pump I know people are replacing them a preventative, I just dont see the point right now. If I start having major problems with it I will replace it, but in my experience with the 12 other BMW's I have owned and many more that I have worked on, its not a usual issue.
Just bought the beast, 2003 with 45k miles, original fuel filter and MAFs (the latter to my knowledge). Adjusted readings in the 136 - 139 range after multiple 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. My highest adjusted reading on a single pull would be a 143.
I've already got a replacement filter, that goes on this weekend, thought on the MAFs? Just leave them be? I set aside some budget when I bought the car, which has taken some hits with various hoses, filters, and INTRAVEE, etc but could afford to replaces the MAFs.

Thanks.
Seems like your car is running well. At 45k besides fuel filter only thing I'd do is order sparkplugs.

Plugs are on the list, read the how-to's here the other night.
I think I just finally got used to the power bump from my G37S and wondered if the beast had slowed down in the last week or so. Brain playing tricks on me.
Yup the best thing you can do when you think your car is seeming slow, is drive/buy an old beater with a 4 cyl...then the next time you jump in the M, it will not be slow.

How funny... I, too, have a G37S and purchased an E39 M5 with low miles (35k) as an eventual replacement. The power difference is immense where I missed it most with the G -- below 3k RPM. I, too, also began having serious performance issues with my M last winter -- changed fuel filter (to no avail, but was glad to have done such an easy swap) then found my problem lie solely in the MAFs. Runs perfectly with new OEM bimmerzone replacements.

Good to meet another G->M convert on the board.
I drove the G back from Houston today (where I purchased the M) and was reminded of the differences. A buddy who helped me ferry my M back from the airport also drove both cars.
The difference in mid range torque is immense for sure, the gearing is also much taller in the M in 5 & 6 in particular. I give the G points on overall ergo, shifter and steering feel, and stock stereo, feels more tossable too, but it's much lighter....
The M's brakes (less grabby), power, clutch take up are all superior though. It makes the G seem really gutless. Too bad about the gas mileage....
