WindShield Replacement Cost and Where?

I realize that some of you have had your windshields replaced because of cracks from rocks, but I do not recall a thread on it. I am having mine replaced because of just such a situation.

Where have you had it done and what was the cost? The estimate from the dealer was about $500 because of the rain sensor. Is this a reasonable number?

I also have a rearview mirror beginning to go bad. Part of the edge will not convert to night time darkness and this is growing. Don't you just love these high tech goodies that do nothing but cost 10 x what a nomal item would run and NOT fail in the process! I believe the rearview mirror is a $500 item as well. For that cost I would probably go ahead and pay the extra money to get the mirror with the V1 incorporated in it.

Thanks for the feedback,

Mark

Thanks for the thread with the write up. I will certainly take that to the dealer and make sure they perform the necessary process as specified by BMW.

Thanks for the "heads up" This what makes this board such a good place.

What about comprehensive glass coverage? WRT the rear-view mirror, have you seen the Stealth1, Mark?

Re: WindShield Replacement Cost and Where?

The tech needs to set the glass in about 1mm. I think the dealerships have a template to use. Otherwise it will whistle!

Re: WindShield Replacement Cost and Where?

Dealer only for this. I have had glass replaced by Safelite and they have been out 2 times to reinstall it. This is on my M3, now there is rust forming at the lower edge of the frame. This was caused when they cut the old glass out. There are very specific instructions in the service manual for replacing the glass on BMW's that require bonding.

The dealer can be held accountable if anything goes wrong.

Re: WindShield Replacement Cost and Where?

I just cracked my windshield and called the stealer immediately. He called back to inform me that a new one installed was-get this!!!- $805.00 plus tax!!!!!!!! Since he's the only dealer around here, I'm kinda stuck. The closest dealer other than Salt Lake is Vegas. Any suggestions??

Mine ended up being $432.00. I had a coice between BMW glass and aftermarket glass. The BMW glass with the rain sensor already installed was less expensive. $805 is really out there. Could you possibly repair the windshield? They are doing some wonderful work with glass repairs these days.
