By the way, what happens with the seat twist- just that the seat won't move in the position you want? I know the dealer updated/fixed this in the M5 I just bought, but in 15 years of E39 driving I never had an issue with the power seats (knock on wood), although I'm the only driver of my 540i so I don't move the seat much- only when the mechanic moves it...

Also, why do you think the car is running cool? Water temp gauge? Oil temp gauge?

I also noticed your car does not have PDC... makes the bumpers look better I think (and you won't have any issues with sensors failing )
You know your car was the first time I saw an AW/imola and I was shocked at that color combo. I wonder how many more AW/imola's are out there. How many miles does yours have?

And yes, no PDC but I have M-Audio.

I think it's a sticking thermostat. Once the ice leaves Raleigh I'm going to see what the temp gauge is picking up.

The seat twist issue is when one of the motors on the seat (I think we have 2 separate motors that are used to recline- left and right) goes out and so there's a twisting effect. If you look at the pic of my drivers' seat, you'll notice that my right side is tilted back more than the left.

Actually it's a cable. Very common problem in the E39 M5. Lots of posts here on a DIY to fix it.

For example see Do It Yourself (DIY) Guidepost

There are others too.

Thanks for clarifying.

PS- does anyone know if I'd be able to plug in an adapter for a USB/Aux/Lightning cable? I'm not sure if this is the original cable that came with a phone or if this was done aftermarket.

I don't think so... that's a proprietary cable specifically for a Motorola phone. It predates iPhones and USB so even if you could find some kind of adapter you would at most be able to just get power for your iPhone, but forget about any connectivity. If you want to plug in your iPhone to stream music and use Bluetooth then you'll need something like a Grom/Mediabridge/Dynavin N6 (from cheapest to most expensive).

They almost look fake to me because I'm so used to seeing the e39 M5 in silver, black, gray, blue or red. I've only seen one in person. A buddy of mine has a E60 M5 6speed in AW. That's a rare bird too.

I hate when I'm cruising CL and I see a pic that I could swear is AW and it turns out to be silver. Not that I need another one anyway...
