Congratulations - nice find!

Chuck, nice pick-up on the badge. Best-case scenario is that the car was ordered de-badged form the factory and the replacement badge was put on wrong. Perhaps you can find out if de-badge option was checked by using the VIN?

One more item on your list: Get rid of that star emblem on the trunk.

P.S. Badge placement:

AW is certainly a nice color. Fitting for the M cars.

Haha yes the star is definitely not staying. Do you recommend any VIN checking sites?

Also, Kevin- it was your car that got me to fall in love with SG/Caramel. Love it.

A big congratulations on your acquisition!! I happened to see this car pop up in an internet ad a couple of days ago- and then I went to the JMK site and it was already gone- you must have bought it in a day or so! I already have an M5 and only looked out of curiosity as years ago we bought a used 325xi at JMK (actually my mother in law still has the 325 with over 220K miles on her!).

I love the white- a few years ago I was buying a fun/weekend car from my wife- we were looking for a used mint post-facelift low mileage E46 slushbox 330CI and loved the look of the white...that turned out to be a pretty specific target and we wound up having to buy the car from a long distance away, from a Mercedes dealership that had it in on trade (36K miles when we bought it in 2012, now about 49K). Someone in a newer white 3 series parked right next to us this summer and I snapped the attached picture- love the pre-bangle BMWs in white

Anyway, the car sounds very nice. The vibration on braking could also be some suspension bushings that need to be refreshed.

That star should come off easily- take a hair drier and blow air on it for a few mins, while gently applying prying pressure and you should get it and any glue off nice and clean without damaging the paint or otherwise leaving a mark. The M5 symbol I'd be more nervous about- maybe if a body shop is addressing the rear bumper have them re-position it at that time with the proper adhesive (or buy a new OEM symbol and maybe you can do this yourself? Is it held on with glue or actually in a hole I wonder?) I've changed many hood BMW roundels over the years (carefully use a credit card w/micro towel and use a very small screw driver to carefully pry up at 12 and 6 o-clock positions then press new one in) but I've never removed the factory rear ID badges...I've removed MANY dealer badges for my cars and the cars of my family with the hair drier method (I hate those things)

Nothing like a nice long drive like you did to really get to know the car. These cars have so much power I'd be surprised if you redlined her 2-3 times a day in normal driving in any sort of commuting traffic

Beautiful car & best of luck with her!!

Congrats and welcome. Before you pull the trigger on new rotors give your front suspension bushings a look. I had the same symptoms you're describing and it was an aged set of bushings instead. The OEM rotors on these cars are pretty robust so it seems warping would be a rare deal. I'm not saying it's impossible, just before you drop the cash on rotors and pads give everything up front a look to make sure you're fixing the right thing.

Kevin, As much as I love your M5 color combo, for whatever reason, that ZCP F80 in your color combo is even better. Now if that exterior had been custom ordered Imola Red coupled with your interior color, we'd really be talking!

jojo,

Search for a post by jclyman (the late John Clyman, amazing guy, wonderful board member) where he showed the M5 badge placement measurements. If your car came with the M5 badge delete option (check the vin decoder), I'm almost positive the side strips on the front doors would not have the M5 badge in them also.

Congrats, Alpine White is great on the E39. I would suggest some stealth bulbs on the rear tail & side lights--they will remove that orangish tint on the clear section of the tail lights.
