Random electrical issues

I've had my M5 for about 1,5 year now and it's been good to me without any nasty suprises ..yet. Though some issues are bugging me and they have been for quite some time but i figure i gotta fix it or find out whats wrong..

First off the temperature needle is acting up and sometimes goes all the way to the red hot side after 10min of driving which is not realistic since the Oil temp has barely moved at that point. When I restart the car it shows me the "correct" temperature. I would think this could be the sensor on top of the termostat, but if I drive 20ish minutes with the needle at red I can see the Oil temp catch up and sit at about 100 degrees (celsius). Again, if I restart the car the display shows the normal operating temp.

Second issue that i suspect is related is the wipers quitting on me... This only happened once so far when I was driving in heavy rain for an hour or so. I think it may be related because a simple restart of the car sorted it for a while and then the died again,, happened about 4 times in a row that day, but not since then.

Same problem goes for the radio sound vanishing and sometimes just comes back to life by it's self. When its gone the tuner wont come up and this also is affected by a restart of the car

I wonder if it could be an Ecu malfunction of some sort since this doesnt happen every time I drive the car, only sometimes and can be "reset" by restarting the car

any input appreciated greatly

Vote for Thermostat.
Mine did almost the same, replacing tstat solved it.

Vote for Wiper relay.
Big brown relay in engine bay relay box. That box is located in passenger (if LHD) side, under(if I remember now correctly) the interior air filter box.

Part number should be 613 683 84505

Broken radio module. Really typical.
Lots of places in Ebay who fixes those.

Just wondering how it could be the tstat when the temperature increase also affects my oil temp and restarting the engine "resets" it to the actual temperature on both the coolant and oil?

As for the other two i've got an avin avant 2 going in the car and hope that'll fix it,, and the relay ofc

So, here's a thought. Plug in your Peake code reader and see what shows up.

Tstat usually give a code "69", which is temp implausibility. But you can get stored codes, clear them and see returns. The ones that return are the ones that will point to current issues.

Jerry
