Hello to all. I have a question for those who have purchased the BMW extended maintenence warranty. Do you have to be the original owner to buy this? It was my understanding that this was also available to 2nd owners, but a call to a local dealership proved otherwise. The person I spoke with said that she was "new" in the department but was pretty sure it was available only to the original owner. I thought this was the case only for the "general" Extended Warranty? I have 2000 miles left on my maintenance warranty, and have had the Inspection II already, but will need new brakes in the near future. Thanks in advance.

Extended maintenance warranty was offered to me as second owner. I had 3/36. I had just had Service I completed so I declined.

The BMW extended maintenance is available to anyone who owns the car, as long as you buy the extension BEFORE the original maintenance agreement runs out. You can intially buy a one or three year extension. If you buy the one year extension, you can subsequently purchase a two year extension, as long as you do so before the one year maintenance extension expires.

As you state, the official extended general warranty is only available to the original owner. It is transferable but cannnot be purchased less than 6 months before selling the car.

Thanks, guys. I'll call the dealership again this week and ask to speak with someone who is knowledgable about this.

Danny,

What dealer are you working with here in Houston?

Mark,
I had spoken w/ a new person at BMW North. Previously, I had been dealing w/ Maisa Khalif, but she is no longer there. I will call again this week and ask them to confirm with someone "higher up". Maisa had originally quoted $1350, but agreed to the retail of $1195.
Did you just get an Inspection II? Mine was performed under the original maintenance warranty in March, at less than 46000 miles. The brakes haven't been replaced yet, so this is the main reason I am looking to purchase the extended maintenance warranty, as well as for the clutch coverage (mine ws replaced at ~ 46600 mi, but you never know...). I purchased a 3rd party extended warranty w/ AAA (Mercury Insurance through corpmsc.com).
I've been following the Uptown Park get-together thread, may be able to make it out there. I've met several Houston M5 owners already, at the recent Houston Raceway Park drag strip. Hope to meet you someday also.

Danny,

You got the Inspection II covered under the warrenty I am assuming because your time was not over three years? My brakes were replaced as well as the clutch before my maintance time ran out.

Come on out the 13th if you get a chance.
