Airbag light and peake SRS

I have a few quick questions that I couldn't quickly surface with a Google search.

My rear airbags were disabled by the original owner probably because of kids ridding in the back. I had the car in the body shop a few months ago for some rust repairs to the left rear passenger door, which is where the airbag warning light is being triggered from.

My questions are:

1) Does the Peake SRS airbag tool do more than just clear the error memory? I can already clear the error using a working copy of INPA. However, the error comes back immediately when the car is turned on again. Other posts refer to the SRS tool being able to reset the codes, but I couldn't determine if it meant a real code reset or just clearing the error code.

2) Can I reset the codes with INPA or any of the other tools using an OBDII cable?

3) When disabling the rear airbags, is that done in the control module or is something placed on the cable? If there is some type of terminator, maybe that's what might have fallen off. I haven't taken apart the door to look.

Thanks.

I have easily coded out both rear upper curtain airbags and front upper one using NCS Expert software. It is a matter of editing a file in notepad (from aktiv to nicht_aktiv). I latter enabled the rear ones after having them replaced with working ones. (the front I have in my garage, but I still have to change it - dashboard needs to be removed and I am not comfortable with this operation yet).

Yes, I've had the error ever since the repair. Unfortunately, the shop didn't have a system to reset the airbag. The plug shouldn't have been reconnected.

I recall reading that you can trigger this error condition if you don't unplug the battery before taking apart the door, which they had to in order to deal with the rust I was trying to get fixed. I'm guessing that is what happened.

I'm trying to figure out what's the cheapest and easiest way to address this (INPA, SRS, etc) without going to the dealer. I wasn't sure if SRS could handle coding. I've seen other posts where the SRS wasn't effective in resolving the light (probably due to an actual problem).

My fault, sometimes I ask questions instead of being more direct. If you discover that the fouls plugged them in, you feel great. If I tell you the fouls plugged it in and that is the only cause, then ... you get it. The goal is to promote DIY. Glad you you the time to look yourself that is a step down the DIY path so it is a win.
