I was going to do this to my estoril car but ended up selling that one before anything happened. Have pretty much regretted the decision ever since. I tried to keep a stock car again by buying an 07 E63 AMG with 34k miles but I quickly got bored with the stock'ness and refused to mod that car. It was the nicest stock car I had ever owned but I just wasn't satisfied. Anyone who knows me knows my obsession for modding cars.

So Friday I picked up the latest project car. 2001 BMW 740i M sport one owner Alpine on tan with 38k miles!!!!

The car was transported to Paul (blackknight530i) yesterday and he will be swapping the carpet to black, installing the NBT retrofit along with his black 750 dash, lower, console and front door cards. Brian (Redshift) will be dying the lower dash, door panels and seats caramel.

I ordered Apex ARC-8's in 19x9.5/10 with Bridgestone Potenza S-04 pole positions in 255/40 and 285/35/19. Got H&R spacers, wheel stud conversion kit and will be doing H&R II springs. Also bought a used Brembo GT BBK for the front with 355x32 2 piece rotors and silver Brembo 4 pot calipers. Same kit I have on the wagon.

Paul has built me a grey faced M5 cluster with white LED's. Apparently I am the first to request that combo :)

Ordered gloss black kidneys, new passenger headlight lens, cowl panel and both engine bay seals.

Waiting on Adam to find me a nice S62/6 speed/diff and then eventually, will do an ESS supercharger. It's going to be epic!

Nice chip repair! Paint does look good.

Got my new plates and picked up the car after the Xpel clear wrap by capital Autobahn. They did an amazing job on the clear wrap. They didn't have enough time to finish the front bumper and the bottom of rear bumper sides but they did the whole hood, fenders, door bottoms, rockers, headlights, foglights, mirrors and A pillars.

MLB's Justin Verlander's had his 911 there getting detailed too. Wicked ride!!

Also, I bought a used set of Racing Dynamics RD2's in perfect E38 fitment (19x8.5/9.5 et 15/18) from a member here. They were my first choice before ordering the BC's but too rare to pass up so I will have 2 sets of rims to run now. May sell the M pars along with the Apex's that are already spoken for.

WOW! Place me on the bidders' list once you get bored and decide to move on to the next project. Very Nicely Done!

Not this one :)

Replaced all the rotors. Zinc/slotted 355x32 rings up front and stop tech slotted 750 rears. Hawk HPS 5.0's all the way around.

Sir, that picture is too hot for the internet. I'm jealous :D

Those look AWESOME under Mpars! I bet the new ones will look nice too.

Spectacular!

It is amazing what BMW could have given us just using its own parts bin. So glad we have members who can show us how it is done (and that includes Redshift and the "touring build" contingent!). M7 and M5 touring.

You guys should be running BMW product development!:wink

Regards,
Jerry

The Xpel clear wrap was finished today and it's fantastic. The entire front bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, lights, rockers, door bottoms and associated trim pieces and lastly, the bottom of the rear bumper all the way to the back corner of the car. The stuff looks like new paint and has a 10 year warranty. I was extremely skeptical about spending the money but after seeing it installed on the car and talking to a lot of friends who have had their cars done, I think it was money well spent. But I would not suggest doing it to a car that isn't in near pristine shape.

Also, my brake vibration is gone! No more squeal when coming to a stop either. The slotted rotors look better, make less noise than the drilled and those Hawk HPS 5.0 pads seem to be perfect.

Tomorrow I drop it off at Thayer so that Clay can install my new 4 clutch M5 diff. Very excited to experience that.

Finally, the RD2's will arrive Monday and the BC's will be here by February 1st supposedly!

very nice project. and its a very nice clean car to start with. i did similar project with E39 touring but i start it with a high mileage $1000 none running car . now i regret it . i should have started with a clean car. but still mine cost is low and its a daily driver . i admire your build. next is doing S62 in to E21 :D

Yep, that car will move out! With the stock cat-back exhaust it's dead silent inside until you put your foot in it, then you hear the engine induction and charger whine. Off throttle you hear the blow off valve and charger flutter. It's actually a nicer combo of sounds than just an exhaust note.
The roads to Brandon's house are anything but flat. The pavement is not broken just undulating. The Billy's and bars keep the car planted even at whatever speed Brandon was going.
I think the project can be deemed Successful.

I would agree! I absolutely love the car.

Racing Dynamics RD2's showed up and man, are they gorgeous in person!! I will have a hard time deciding which wheels to run but I have a feeling I will be blown away by the BC's. I plan to run AS3's on the RD's and will use my Potenza S04 Pole Position's on the BC Forged wheels.

Had to post my new toy too. I have started an F40 shrine in my office with two prints and now this 1 of 20 1:18 scale F40 Competizione. I have wanted a scale Competizione forever and this one is absolutely stunning. I have two more versions on pre-order. Kyosho 1:12 Competizione (been waiting since 2012 for that) and the BBR white LM in 1:18.

Dropped the Racing Dynamics RD2's off to have the one refinished and the rest cleaned up really well (adhesive on barrels) and since I have been such a loyal customer and referral source, the guy ended up doing the whole set super cheap. Can't wait to get them back on Monday. Ordered AS3's in 245/275 since the RD2's are 8.5/9.5. BC Forged should ship soon. I imagine I will have a hard time deciding which wheels to run.

Considering dropping the car off to have the tint removed today as well. I prefer clean glass with the shades over tint personally.

I think it will look much better without tint too. Much. :)

One thing to consider if you don't want tint for privacy or sun blocking is to get some UV-blocking clear tint done on all the windows to protect the interior and dash over time. I have done this on my M3 wagon but not to protect -- I want to keep the heat down in summer with all my Fibrenew gear inside the car. The AC works much better not having to struggle as hard either.

I also like to protect the interior, especially the dashboard which is why I have 3M 70% Crystalline tint on the windshield. You can't tell unless I point it out, but it keeps the interior significantly cooler; you get much more heat through the windshield than anywhere else.

Brian, I believe I have put around 1000-1200 miles on it. Not too much really because of the weather. Still think it's the best car I have ever owned!!

The RD2's will be done Monday. I went a shade darker on the hyper silver.

Those RD2's are beautiful!

Thanks! They certainly are. I had wanted a set and just gave up knowing how rare they are. Ordered the BC Forged 2 piece custom spec wheels and these showed up for sale on here the next week... I love the RD2's so much that I had to buy them also. Now my toughest decision will be which set to run at any given time.

I forgot to mention that I finally drove the car with the new diff which feels great. I really can't tell the difference between the old one yet but that is what sold me on the 4 clutch. Clay had explained I wouldn't notice much difference with normal driving as that was my biggest concern with going from 2 to 4 clutches. I love how smooth and comfortable this car is and don't want to lose that for any reason.
